Customer Review: Thin coating on sides

I grabbed it to whack on a bag of ice. The silicone coating on the side of this meat pounder tore, exposing the gray dull metal inside. Now I'm afraid to use it on food, fearing that germs and bacteria can get trapped inside the silicone coating. Be warned, this item has a thin lining of silicone on its sides, so do not whack anything hard with it. I wish that the label had had a warning about this. I only had it a couple of days. I used it to mash pinto beans in my nonstick frying pan. It mashed the beans well and it was easier to clean than a potato masher, but now it's ruined because I whacked on a bag of ice. I will not purchase this item again.
