Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of EdgeCraft 610 Chef's Choice Premium Electric Food Slicer

Customer Review: Chef's Choice should be everyones choice
Summary: 5 Stars

I previously had an Oster Slicer that basically served its purpose. Over time, parts of the case began breaking so I searched for a replacement. Amazon.com led me to the Chef's Choice 610 Premium Electric Food Slicer. This slicer had great reviews and I decided to order it for my replacement. I received the unit before the Christmas season and put it to immediate use. The body is all metal, thus eliminating breakable plastic. The dial for slice thickness is similar to commercial food slicers. The on/off switch offered either continuous on or intermittent operation. The feeder slide is solid and operates smoothly. I have used if for slicing cheeses, pepperoni, roasts, eggplant, breads and various vegetables, which it handled with no difficulty. Cleanup was easy and safely performed after removing the serrated blade. Just be sure to replace the locking screw without forcing or overtightening.
In my opinion, this unit performed well above expectations and its quality and craftsmanship makes it an excellent buy even if it were twice the price.

Customer Review: Good slicer for the money, but it has some flaws.
Summary: 3 Stars

I've had this slicer for quite a while now, and it's a good model, but if you can afford one of the higher end chef's choice models, you'd be better off getting them. My main complaints about the slicer are three. One, the motor is underpowered for some meats (roast beef in particular comes to mind) and strains to cut through them. Two, the thickness can gradually open itself up as you slice, to the point where I have to keep my left hand on the thickness knob to hold it steady while I slice with my right. And three, and this is my biggest complaint, the screw that attaches the blade is cheap and poorly designed. The lift up handle that allows you to tighten the screw snapped off on me fairly early on. I've been using a screwdriver in the slot that the handle used to attach to turn the screw since then, but, the screw insides have become chewed up to the point where I am now searching the internet for a replacement screw part. Despite these flaws, this really is a good amateur level meat slicer and for the price is a great value.

Customer Review: Must have lots of $$ to own this Slicer, you will become addicted to it.

Ya know I read all the reviews on this Machine before I bought it. Wanted one, thought about it, pranced around about it, then. bingo, I bought it. So, having babbled all that, heres the catch. I read the pros and cons, so when it arrived I put it through the test. Boy did I test it, and it tested my bank account. I sliced Beef, Pork, Bread, Cheese, Onions, cleaned it and put it away. Heres the adicitive part. The next day I sliced more, froze it, now have plenty of Beef all sliced and ready to thaw. Tommorrow I will try Frozen Halibut, bout 1/2 " thick, then cut it again with a Sharp Knife into cubes, bread it and gain weight I spose. Oh ya, because of all this food I seem to like to SLice, I gained 5 lbs since I bought it, so buyer beware, this machine will add weight, send ya shopping more, and, in closing, you will have a blast with it. Easy to clean, stores in a small area, and is very patient, it will sit there till you pick er up and use er again.

Thanks, now go ahead and buy one, you wont be disappointed.

Customer Review: I love saving money
Summary: 5 Stars

This slicer is perfect for the family kitchen. It is very stable, solidly designed, and has the potential of saving hundreds of dollars in convenience and fast foods.

With this slicer I've made my own beef jerkey, deli sliced meats, and cheeses and it is a breeze to make french fries, coleslaw, veggie sticks, and so on. My husband and I figured that we saved $30.00 last night making our own deli roast beef, as opposed to buying at a high end deli. Raw meat does need to be a little frozen to slice perfectly, and if it's not, the meat will bunch up as you are slicing, but for me that is a minor inconvenience.

I haven't tried other slicers, but I like the features this one has. For safety, it has a locking system where little hands cannot get at the blade, and an adustment knob to make the perfect thickness of the slice you want.

If saving money is your goal, and you want a slicer that is safe, makes perfect slices, and is easy to clean, then
I highly recommend this slicer.

Customer Review: Jerky remedy
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the Chef's Choice 610 Premium solely for use in slicing meats for making beef jerky.
This slicer fully serves the purpose for me. I cut 8 1/2 pounds of "eye of the round" and it was such a breeze. The powerful motor never did drag or get hot. For a home slicer it does a fantastic job. If you want a deli slicer you'll probably need to buy
a larger more extensive unit. This unit is great for home use. It is very easy to use and very easy to clean. The blade detaches quick and easy for cleaning afer use. The dial selector is accurate and versatile. It is so convenient with its dual purpose dial for unlocking the meat tray holder. This unit comes apart in a short period of time. The thickness of the cuts are very uniform and the blade is deffinately SHARP. In my opinion the unit is solid and the design has been thought through by someone who knows the needs of this products use. I am deffinately pleased with this product and think anyone else looking for a home unit would be pleased as well.
