Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of EdgeCraft 610 Chef's Choice Premium Electric Food Slicer

Customer Review: Best money can buy
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this slicer about a month ago and it is fantastic, I also have a Waring Pro FS150 and the 610 is by far the better machine, it's very, very easy to clean as the carriage and the backplate come of in a matter of seconds which can then be taken to the sink for washing and no tools are needed. The slicer cuts paper thin, you can make potatoe chips, or you can cut up to 1" thick. I also have the edgecraft 662 which is out of these slicers class in quality and price, but no matter how you slice it, I still like the 610 the best because it is so much easier to clean than the 662.The motor is a good one, it's not like the Waring which can only be used for 10 miniutes. The 610 can be used indefitly. Anyway I don't think they make a better slicer for any amount of money.

Customer Review: Very good slicer
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my 2nd slicer, I won't mention the brand of the first lousy one. This slicer worked very well right out of the box. I also purchased the smooth blade to use for slicing meats. I only use the smooth blade for any type of cold cuts and I am able to get very thin slices on all types of cheeses and meats. It takes a little patience to get "paper thin" slices for things like prosciutto but it is possible by taking it slow. The adjustment knob is much better than those that use a lever, and dis-assembly/cleaning is a snap. The only issue I have is that the rubber feet do not hold very well on my formica counter, but I just put a book or pot behind the unit to keep it from sliding into the wall and I'm good to go. For the price, you can't beat this slicer.

Customer Review: Great choice for what I want.
Summary: 4 Stars

For me, choosing a product becomes difficult when you have hands on experience with both the commercial and household versions of a product. I look to reviews to see if the product will fit my well defined needs.

I bought this slicer to be able to make whole muscle jerky and other thinly sliced meat dishes. I generally work with raw meats and as such, the unit does the slicing and then comes apart for a thorough cleaning with relative ease.

With raw meat, getting the last little piece sliced with out slicing into the tips of the plastic holder was tricky. If the mold used to make this piece was beefed up a little (no pun intended) it would not flex when pressure was applied. This is the reason I give it a 4 instead of 5.

Customer Review: Well worth the cost

Since I learned that home made bread is so much better than commercial I've baked my own. What I've longed for was the nice even slices you get when you purchase a loaf at the grocery store. I tried the bread knife and the plastic guides for a long while but was never happy till I finally purchased this slicer. Now I can cut perfect slices every time and cut them to the exact thickness I wish. No longer am I limited to a fixed spacing between plastic guides (they were always too thick for my sandwiches). One final point, the slicing adjustment Knob is numbered and perfectly resettable so when cutting cheese you will use a low number while for cutting bread I use number 12 and know the slice will be the exact thickness I want. I am very pleased.

Customer Review: Very satisfied with this product's performance.
Summary: 5 Stars

This product works well, and provides clean, precise slices. Thus far I've used it on ham, roast beef, turkey breast, sopressata, and various cheeses. It's relatively easy to clean.

As others have probably mentioned, the plastic part that attaches the blade to the base is a little flimsy and requires caution, but other than that, the construction is solid.

In my opinion, in order to get the full benefit of a product like this, you should also have/get a vacuum sealer like a Food Saver or a Seal-a-Meal. Then you can really have your own home delicatessen.

I've already saved a lot by making sandwiches at home rather than eating lunch out. And I've gotten better quality sandwiches in the bargain.
