Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale, WhiteCustomer Review: Maybe we got a dud Summary: 4 Stars
Originally my husband and I purchased the Escali scale that is approximately the same price. We were very pleased with it and used it daily until we accidentally left it on top of the toaster oven and melted it. Oops! When I ordered a new one I thought I'd try the EatSmart brand because it got slightly better reviews. Wish I had just stuck with the one I knew we liked.
Within 2 months of use the EatSmart started having problems with the display. Not all of the lines that make up each number would show up. Most of the numbers could be guessed but it was impossible to tells 7s from 1s for example. Then one day it mysteriously started working again! Now just 6 months after we got the scale it is completely not functioning. A random number shows up on the display and anytime you push the tare button all of the numbers/symbols on the display are shown. Not very helpful.
Update: I received a response from EatSmart within an hour of emailing them and they are sending out a new scale! So while our experience with the scale was not great the service was excellent! I'll update again once we've given the new scale a chance.
Update 2: I received a new scale very quickly, the next business day I believe! So far we aren't having an issues with the new scale and all is well! They even sent me a follow-up email making sure I received the new scale and that I wasn't having any problems with it.
I have to say EatSmart has the best customer service I have encountered in a very long time! Keep it up guys!
Customer Review: I Love the EatSmart Precision Pro!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I waited a couple of weeks before I wrote this so I felt it could be accurate. First, let me start bt stating we LOVE this scale!! We looked and looked at scales - researched and researched.. I was online saw this scale for $25, saw the great reviews and bought it instantly! Some of the greatest features...
Size - it is just the right size, it is flat and compact so it fits on the counter perfect.
Measurements - I love that is measures in grams, ozs.. it makes weighing very accurate. It comes with this handy little book that lists almost all foods and gives the info in th USDA Calorie Factor. At first I was puzzled - now I love it. I weigh most meat in oz. then you multiply the Cal factor by 28 (28 grams in an oz) then you have cal per oz.. it is very accurate. I did not know what 6 oz of chicken looked like..
Tare Function - this is fabulous!! You just push the on button, put your plate/paper towel whatever on top - push on/tare. It resets to zero, then measure your food..how easy is that!!
We measure EVERYTHING.. we are adjusting our diet and this scale has proved to be essential. Bottom line, it is accurate, easy to use, easy to store, has any function you would need... and at a great price!! No need to go out and spend $50 - $100 on a scale - this cannot be beat!!! Go for it - you will not be sorry.
Customer Review: It does the job Summary: 4 Stars
Everybody should own a kitchen scale. This is a nice little scale for the price. It replaces a previous kitchen scale of another brand. I have had this one for about one month and use it several times a day.
Likes:
>Large weigh pan holds big containers (like a bread bowl) easily without hiding the digital display underneath
>Digital scale shows weight in jumbo-size numbers - easy for the age 45+ user to read
>Scale reads in grams, kg, oz, or lb. All units are shown in decimal, not fractions. This is very helpful if you are changing a recipe and you need to scale up or down in quantity.
>Uses two AAA batteries, rather than button cells (uggh) or 9V.
>The price is right. I don't think you can do much better for the money.
Dislikes:
>It's definitely a lightweight plastic construction. I was a little nervous about its accuracy because it seemed cheaply made, although in fact the accuracy seems excellent.
>It doesn't quite sit flat on the counter. It wobbles a little. It has five rubber feet, which I guess is two more than it should have.
>It isn't waterproof or even completely water resistant. I got it wet one time and it stopped working for a couple of days. But then after it had dried out it worked fine again!
Customer Review: White is NOT a true white; black/chrome is wonderful Summary: 4 Stars
This review is mainly intended to let other customers know that the white is not a bright, true white as indicated in the photographs and even on the photograph on the product's box. Rather it is a slightly pinkish off-white (a very odd color...surely not beige, but definitely not a true white), which contrasts/clashes markedly with standard whites that you'd find in common kitchen appliances, counter tops, and tiles. I saw belatedly that one other review, among the countless reviews, mentioned this rose-tinged white and strongly recommended choosing a different color; I wish I had see that review before I ordered. I'm going to return my scale and reorder it in the black & chrome. I wish they offered solid black. I'm sure that the product itself is excellent, and I look forward to using it, mainly to accurately weigh yarn, as recommended by Clara Parkes in her Knitter's Review.
Update: I received my replacement scale in black and chrome, and this color combination is absolutely perfect and classy-looking, despite being plastic. The scale also seems to work very well in my preliminary testing. I love that it takes up so little space.
Customer Review: Calorie Counter Summary: 5 Stars
This is the cutest scale ever. I'm glad that it also came in a variety of colors. I got the red one to match my kitchen colors. It is very lightweight, slick, contemporary, and most of all does not take up a lot of space. It has different measurements (e.g. pounds, grams, kilograms, and ounces) which easily switch back and forth. I am calorie counting so I want to measure by weight versus pieces (e.g. turtle chex mix is 29 oz while pieces would be 11). The weight is much easier to follow than counting 11 pieces of chex mix plus it came out to more than 11 pieces. I have not used the scale to weigh anything heavier but I imagine it will be just fine. I especially like the tare button so that I don't have deduct the measuring cup weight to zero it out. The one thing that I found odd was not the product itself but the box it came in. It looked like something you would get from the dollar store so I was a bit skeptical. But once I put the scale to the test it did what I wanted and perfect for what I needed it for. The AAA battery is reassuring because you don't have to hunt down some special type that fits. I hope that it will last a long time.
