Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale, White ChromeCustomer Review: EatSmart Precision Pro - Very good kitchen scale Summary: 4 Stars
My wife and I are on a diet and use the scale to weigh out portions. This scale is very easy to use, is consistent in the weights and appears to be very accurate. We have used it now for a little more than 3 weeks with multiple times a day. The tare function and switching weight units is easy to do. The scale has large digits that are easy to read and a real plus is the scale uses 2 standard AAA batteries. A few small complaints and the reason I did not give it 5 stars: First is the chrome steel top is not chrome steel but plastic. I don't think the product description leads you to think otherwise but the they don't mention it is plastic either. The picture leads you to believe it is chrome. So because it is plastic, it gets dirty a little easier. Next, the scale is almost a little too small for me. Because of this, when you put a plate on the platform, it can easily cover the display. This is the same complaints mentioned by others. So to read the display you sometimes need to bend down to look under the plate to read the display. I also used a scale before with a glass platform top which could be removed to clean. It appears that this scale's platform is not removable and so only damp wiping down cleaning is possible. So, other than these few complaints, the scale is very good and we are happy with it. With a 2 year warranty it is an exceptional value for the price.
Customer Review: Mighty little gadget. Best purchase I've made recently! Summary: 5 Stars
What a smart decision it turned out to be to buy this little gadget! I couldn't be happier with a product. It is compact so won't take up any space or be an eye sore. Keep it on the counter, cabinet, drawer, wherever you like. It'll fit. Same when weighing things. Use it on the counter, coffee table, floor, whatever. It is so light it is unbelievable. Next is the ease of use. Turning it on and taring is a breeze. Place an empty container on it, hit tare and ta-da, you've got zero. Just add whatever you want to weigh. Or, you can place the container before you turn it on and it'll show zero as soon as the power is on. It can't be simpler than this. Has the right and necessary 4 units: Kg, g, lb and oz. You can convert from one to another before or while you're weighing. Oh, did I mention that I'm also getting some 'off-label' use out of this thing? I weigh my mail and shipments, too. Yes, small or large envelopes, medium size packages, boxes, this baby will hold and measure. I send quite a bit of domestic and international shipments and print my labels from my computer. Thanks to this scale, I did not have to purchase one of those post-meters or postal scales. Highly, highly recommend it. A no brainer with a price tag like this anyway...
Customer Review: This scale is easy to use for a novice Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this scale because I was recently diagnosed with Diabetes. I've never used a food scale before, and was intimidated by the thought of this. I read the reviews and decided to try it. I love it!
First, I was delighted that it was smaller and lighter than I expected, as I feared it would be something that would hog a lot of counter space. It was so easy to, use, I just turned it on. I pressed the right button four times, and found oz and grams. I pressed the left button, and discovered it only took two pushes to figure out how to weigh something in a container without the weight of the container being included. So easy.
I'm having so much fun with it! I discovered that 2 oz of cashews are not the size of a handful, they are more! I discovered that weighing my cereal was more accurate than measuring it. I am actually having fun weighing food. Who would have thought!
If you are looking for easy, small enough to leave out, and very usable, this is for you!
Customer Review: Compact, quick scale - easy to use and store Summary: 5 Stars
This particular scale was purchased as a gift for my mom who is doing Weight Watchers. Like most of us, she had no read idea of "What is 4 oz of meat" or "1 serving of butter" and this really helped her with portion control! Yeah, it can be a bit of a pain to get out every time, but when you are re-training your brain on "what is an acceptable serving" of the food, going to a scale is the perfect way to keep from accidentally (or intentionally) over indulging.
This is especially helpful since the scale reads out in kilograms, grams, pounds, and ounces.
As someone who bakes, my scale is fantastic for doing things like making breads where I weigh the ingredients, especially since I can add an ingredient, zero the scale, add the next, and repeat. The whole thing is compact and quick to read the values, and - unlike some other scales - is just fine to store sideways. I've had mine for about a year now with use several times a week or more, and the first battery is still working fine.
Customer Review: Can't bake without it! Summary: 5 Stars
I had a tiny little analog scale for ever, but really wanted to upgrade to a digital one with a "tare" function. I mostly use it for baking (sometimes for cooking too, e.g. to measure just the right amount of pasta). This scale is perfect - it's a good size, uses regular batteries, has imperial and metric units of measurements and a nice big display. As other reviewers pointed out, it has a long shut-off window (I think it's 3 minutes), so you don't need to rush when measuring ingredients.
Just as a side note: I started baking by weight after watching Alton Brown and reading his books and I am a convert - I do think that measuring ingredients by weight when baking does produce a much more reliable end-product. It's a shame that it's so hard to find baking recipes that are written using weight. When I bake, say, out of Mark Bittman, I usually try the recipe a couple of times and then re-write it by weight, so that I can get consistent results with it going forward.
