Customer Review: Well it's not a magic wand, but how good is it?

I've been using this tool for over a year on two flights of stairs as well as furniture. Previously I used a similar turbine tool from another brand.
First off, the Dyson tool is far superior to the old one I had, which seemed like a toy by comparison. The Dyson is wider and gets up to speed much faster. It also works far better, and I've used it on several different surfaces.
On stairs, I have a deep carpet and a shallower carpet. The Dyson tool works well on both. I can do each step in 2 passes, though I usually make 2 passes for each half. Once in a while it has trouble with some ground in lint, which I pick out, but other than that, it performs as designed. I don't have to lift and carry the vacuum, running it over each step, which is a major pain and what I had to do with my old Hoover. By the way, I recently steam cleaned the stairs, and the extracted water was not even that dirty, demonstrating that I have been able to keep the stairs pretty clean with this tool.
In reading the reviews of others, people do not seem to understand that this tool is not powered by electricity, or magic. Therefore you can not press down harder and harder and then react with surprise that the turbine stopped rotating. Well, I suppose you can, but it is not an effective use of your time. You can only press so hard before it stops rotating, so don't. Allow it to keep rotating while you run it across what you are vacuuming, and do it moderately slowly allowing the turbine to do its work. In this context, the tool works quite reliably and I have been very happy with it.
The alternative would have been for Dyson to design the turbine tool to run on electricity, with a little motor inside and wires running inside the telescopic reach and hose. The hose would have to then be non-extendible, since with wires running inside, it couldn't stretch anymore. Without describing further, this would have added at least $100 more to the price tag of every vacuum they sell and made the design less user friendly since you would have to switch hoses and lock-click everything into place soas to create a safe passage for electricity.
In my opinion, this would be the only way to improve on the turbine tool. With the performance I can get out of the existing tool, it hits the sweet spot between price and effectiveness, and I would not be willing to pay more for an electric one. It works fine the way it is.
