Purchased this vacuum two months ago. Out of the box it was easy to put together and running in no time. We bought it because we just had new carpet installed in almost the entire house and wanted a good vacuum to keep it clean. One feature that sold us was the "ball". We were hoping that the ball would leave no marks in the carpet like four wheels would. (My wife and I are both a little OCD and lines in the carpet would make us a little uncomfortable.) We were not disappointed. The Dyson ball left no carpet lines at all. Yippee! The power cord is a little shorter than we'd like, about four feet too short but that's minor. The dirt container is easy to remove, empty and reinstall...very easy. The suction is fantastic! Watch out for animals and small children! The extension wand/hose works great, especially for our 9ft ceilings where it is a snap to grab those dust cobwebs high up in the corners. My only complaint is/was the roller bar button...which did not work. The roller was always on despite the instructions to just push the button. It happens that on our vacuum the plastic button had an excess tab of plastic which prevented it from moving. After a hundred tries, I finally hit it hard enough to break the extra tab and now the roller bar button works fine. Off...on...off...on...okay, now I'm happy.
Yes, it's $500 but it is a quality machine that works great. The little plastic tab on the button problem was just one of those things that happen but is no problem now. Dyson puts their service phone number right on the front of the vacuum which I like and almost called until the button freed up. If not for that little glitch, we'd give it five stars. So go ahead and buy one....we are glad we did.
