Customer Review: Classic glasses are back, close to but not up to originals

We have had this type of glasses for a long time, having purchased them at Williams-Sonoma many years ago. Over the years some had broken so I ordered these as replacements. I was happy that the new ones are identical in size and shape to the old ones. The quality on the new ones doesn't look to be as good however, the glass looks more rippled when you look through them; the old ones had very clean lines. It looks like they are using the original molds but not with the same quality control they used to have. On the positive side its not the kind of thing that anyone would notice, and many glasses have imperfections as the norm so if you did not see the originals you would probably think these newer versions are perfectly fine. So, overall I am satisfied with these new glasses. The 8 3/4, 12, and 16 3/4-oz sizes are identical to the ones Williams-Sonoma used to sell; that plus a smaller size are the only four sizes they used to sell.
One problem we had with some of the old ones is a few "blew up" when coming out of the dishwasher -- just the act of grabbing them would cause them to disintegrate into pea-size pieces of glass. It was quite shocking when it happened, but the shards of glass were not sharp and did not fly far so it was not particularly dangerous, just a mess to clean up. I expect the new ones have the same glass formulation and could also have this problem, but maybe not.
