Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Deni 7600 3-Tier 9-1/2-Quart Stainless-Steel Digital Food SteamerCustomer Review: Positive Review for 7600 Steamer Summary: 5 Stars
My niece ordered this Food Steamer for me as a surprise. I had many concerns when I read the previous reviews while waitng for the steamer to arrive.
When it did arrive I was delighted to have called customer service so that I knew I was programming the clock correctly. The CS Rep also gave me some tips and added to the directions in the booklet.
Since then I started with steaming vegetable and then progressed to steaming using all three containers to do salmon and corn on the cob and other vegetable. It was fabulous. Then I went on to the real need for the steamer, making chinese pork dumplings [Dim Sum]. Once again, perfect steaming.
Setting the time in the beginning can be confusing but the Cus. Ser. folks will walk you thru it.
I don't use the programming feature because I would not leave anything electrical unattended.
I am totally enjoying this product and have made many wonderful foods in the month I have had it.
I recommend using Deni customer service to get started. They are great and really simplify the instructions. T. Lamberti Houston, TX
Customer Review: Poor Design Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this steamer after the one I had for 7 years bit the dust. My previous steamer had a turn dial timer so I thought I would give the digital timer a try - figured it would be pretty neat. Big mistake.
The tiered basket system with the removable bottoms is a good idea, but the baskets are flimsy and do not fit together securely.
I like to steam eggs in my steamer. Normally I throw them in before bed, set the timer for 15 minutes and they are ready to go in the morning. The Deni steamer was taking 40 minutes plus to steam a hardboiled egg - ridiculous! The timer was cumbersome - It starts out at 46 minutes then you have to backtrack from there in 5 minute increments then forward in 1. I found I could not set the steamer and leave. It would steam my veges to the desired steam time, then about a minute later it would reset itself to 46 minutes and start again on its own! After ruining a couple batches of broccoli I finally packed it back up and returned it. I have since replaced it with another brand (with manual turn timer) that is working like a charm.
Customer Review: Great steamer if you don't need it to last for more than a week! Summary: 1 Stars
I absolutely loved this steamer for the entire week that it worked! I used it daily to cook everything including meats, veggies, hard boiled eggs, and even apples for homemade applesauce. I told everybody who would listen how wonderful it was. The love affair didn't last long, however. After about a week, the power button stopped working. At first, it would not work to turn the machine off so I had to unplug the cord when I was done using it. Then, within a day, I started having to push it about 15 times in a row to get it to turn the machine on. Finally, about a day later, it stopped working altogether making the machine useless. In looking at it closely, it's easy to see why it didn't last. The buttons on the front panel are all extremely flimsy and when you push any of them, all the buttons and the display panel all move. I don't see how it could possibly last long being that cheaply made. I returned it and I am now shopping for another steamer.
Customer Review: Like a charm Summary: 5 Stars
I was given one of these as a gift for Christmas 2009 and have used it every day since without a problem. I love how fast it begins to steam after you turn it on... no waiting for a large volume of water to boil.
It is specific in how the different trays can be stacked. If you try to put any tray but the one labeled "1" on the base unit, it will have a gap and perhaps that is where other people are getting leaks. I always use tray #1 on the bottom and never have any problem with leaks. It turns off after the time I set runs out... but it also has a nice "keep warm" mode that will periodically re-steam for a few seconds if you don't get to it right away.
I have convinced several of my friends to buy this steamer and have given several of them as gifts. It has changed the way I eat permanently... nothing is healthier than steamed vegetables and they simply taste great.
Customer Review: Will Return This Summary: 1 Stars
I have owned an Oster 5712 2-tier steamer and use it so much, I wanted to purchase a unit for my mother-in-law for Christmas.
But the local shops were all out of them - we searched everywhere. So we decided to gift the Deni steamer, instead. Although I got it to turn on (after much fiddling!) and steam some raisins that needed plumping for a fruit salad, my MIL was never able to get it to work again, and she tried several times.
The design is flawed. The trays are thin/flimsy and difficult to position on the unit. We had to try all of them before finding the tray that seated into the base. All in all, this was a terrible disappointment because now we have to return it and find another Oster somewhere. It was a brand new unit, never opened, so I suspect that Quality Control is a bit lax.
