Customer Review: Non-stick coating flaking off.

I've had this grill for about 2 years now but I've only used it about four times. After using it the last time I noticed blistering of the grill non-stick coating (Teflon?). I was able to scratch this off in a few places with my fingernail to verify if the coating was blistering or if these spots were just imperfections underneath. I wasn't pleasantly surprised to find that the blistering came off easily and that this could be in my food the next time I use it (healthy grilling!). I had many flects of coating on the table after running my fingernail over the blisters exposing the bare metal of the grill.
I therefore cannot recommend this product to anyone. By the way, I've only used a soapy sponge to clean the grill and never used metalic utensils on in while cooking. The "blistering" of the teflon tells me that the metal of the grill was not primed correctly before the coating was applied. Has this happened to anyone else? Before I throw this grill away I'm going to try to contact the manufacturer and see if they can replace the grill element seeing how this looks like a manufacturing defect.

I am very satisfied with this grill; I have also given it as a gift to a relative who also loves it and uses it frequently.
Some of the problems described here (not hot enough, etc.), in my opinion, stem from improper use. Like any grill, you have to let it warm up, before plopping quarter pound hamburgers on it. My daughter over-cooked chicken breasts on it(they looked great (grill lines, etc.) but they were dry)--so the comments here about the heating element not working are simply not true.
I love the glass top that contains spattering; I also line the bottom of the grill (when cooking) with aluminum foil to make clean up easier. The grill itself is something of a pain to clean, but I put mine in the dishwasher and it comes out great.
This grill performs very well, but you have to allow sufficient time for the heating element to get the grill hot and choose the correct heat settings in connection with what you are cooking--not exactly rocket science, but judging from the reviews here, some people obviously find this challenging.

This is the perfect upgrade from the George Foreman, by a long shot! With the Foreman, I always felt that the press action without the grill marks just was kind of disgusting, also disgusting the way the grease would roll off the grill. I bought a piece of filet mignon once and it was torched in 2 mins on the Foreman. I live in a condo and cannot have an outdoor grill. I really wanted something to mimic an outdoor grill as much as possible. This is the perfect solution. I grilled salmon tonight and it truly tastes as if it came off of an outdoor grill. It was cooked perfectly and has gorgeous grill marks. I would not be able to identify if the fish was cooked on an indoor or outdoor grill, that's how good it is. The only downside is the cleaning of the grill. It's not super hard, it's just that the grill plate has an attachment that cannot be soaked on one end, so you cannot just soak the plate to make it easy to scrub off the debris. However, with a regular scrub brush, I thought it cleaned up just fine. I am so happy, this grill is perfecto!Customer Review: Grill paint/coating wearing off after 2 months

The first product delivered to me had a missing knob for the glass lid - had to return and wait 2 more weeks for everything to get settled. Minus one star.
On veggies (e.g. portobello mushrooms) it's great. On meats it's a hit or miss. Steaks and evenly-sliced meats turn out okay. But even for cooking chicken breast on this thing (it doesn't recommend thighs or drums), I still had to pop it in the microwave to get it fully cooked without burning it further. Minus one star.
And the clincher - after 10 weeks of moderate use (probably grilled 6 or 7 times in that span) and always washing the grill plate using only a sponge, I discovered that some of the coating of the grill is chipping off! I don't know if it's paint, non-stick coating, or something else, but I am definitely no longer using this and eating paint with my food. Minus one star.
It's beyond the return policy window with Amazon, but I'll see if DeLonghi can do something about this. Disappointed at what I thought to be a trusted brand.

I bought this grill being sort of skeptical after trying the George Foreman grill and being very disappointed in it. It is too cold in winter where I live to go outside to grill and too windy in the spring but wanting grilled foods year around I decided to give it a try. I have used it almost nonstop for 2 weeks and it works great. You should preheat it for 5 minutes at the highest indicator and then sear the foods on both sides for 3-5 minutes, turn down the heat and cook until desired wellness. It works wonderfully well, eats are tender and juicy and clean up is a snap. I have grilled fish, chicken, hamburgers and turkey burgers and have been satisfied with every result. today I pre cooked some potatoes in the microwave, sliced them in half, sprayed some canola oil on them and then grilled them alongside the chicken and they were delicious. Although it doesn't have the taste of freshly BBQ'd meat, the meat comes out tender with a nice grilled effect. I highly recommend it for those times you cannot grill outside.
