Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Delonghi BG24 Perfecto Indoor GrillCustomer Review: Do Not Buy This Grill Summary: 1 Stars
Do not buy this grill. I tried to give it zero or negative stars, but the system would not allow that. The grill does not perform as described. It does not get hot enought to sear or brown the meat. I grilled a couple of pork steaks on the grill for over 30 minutes and they never got browned. Instead, there were light brown streaks where they contacted the grill and the rest of the meat just turned an unappetizing dirty gray color. Also, despite the length of time the steaks were on the grill, parts that were not in contact with the grill were not completely done. The manufacturer will undoubtedly say that a person should put the cover on the grill, but then the meat is being steamed rather than grilled and will not brown.
In fairness, I should add that I tried a George Foreman grill and it did not perform any better. In fact, I collected the juice that ran off and put it in a pan. After steaming off all the water that had run off, there was very little fat remaining. It is advertised as a fat-burner, but it is not.
I have a thirty-five year old West Bend radiant heat grill that still performs better than either of these two. Years ago, Farberware also made a radiant heat grill. I realize that there may be safety concerns because the heating element could inflict a severe burn, but I haven't gotten burned in thirty-five years. Please, someone make a radiant heat grill!
Customer Review: DeLonghi wins again Summary: 5 Stars
It works great! I was skeptical because I have not seen any indoor grill that heats up enough, but this one does. If you let it warm up when you first turn it on (a few minutes longer than the instructions say), it will give you very close to the sizzle action you get on an outdoor bbq. The meat cooks very evenly and yes it takes longer than a Bbq, but it will be also less likely to be charred and burned in spots. I cooked steaks (yes they get nice grill marks), chicken drumsticks (although they are not recommended on the instruction book, I let them cook for about 1/2 to 3/4 hour and they were perfect, cooked through and full of good flavor). I also cooked an array of vegetables, from asparagus to endive and bell pepper. It all came out perfect. I clean it by removing the grill and, holding it by the electrical socket (which I don't want to get wet), I get it under the water faucet in my sink and I brush it with a bristle brush. It cleans very nicely. Also, I use Pam on the grill before I use it to help with sticking. As far as the smoke goes, I haven't noticed much of it at all. I use the lid quite a bit to retain the heat, and I also turn on the kitchen fan, but the smoke is no more or less than a normal amount you would get from regular cooking on the stove top. I recommend this one!!
Customer Review: Move over George .!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this grill about a week ago and I love it. First of all the cooking area is BIG.. and wonderful so that you can really cook. I also love how you can adjust the heat setting depending on what you are cooking instead of like my former George where it was 1 temp was supposed to cook all ( which burnt the outside of thick pieces of meat and chicken breast and left the inside way underdone)I also love how the fat drips down immediatly into the tray. On my George ( a big one) the fat would come sort of off one burger and then run into the other burger and stay there without ever going into the tray thing. Clean up is alot easier than George because I can stick all of it except the temp control into the sink or dishwasher to wash. I also like the lid that keeps the food from drying out while cooking and warm before it is served. I will admit it is not as fast as George but honestly the quality of food I cook is so much better b/c it has been cooked right and not just fast. This grill IMO is much more similar to cooking on an outside grill and the taste is better for it. I highly reccomed this product over it's competition, there is no comparrison! Move over George, YOU GO GRILL!
Customer Review: PERFECT FOR INDOOR GRILLING - REALLY! Summary: 5 Stars
This product works very well. Grilling indoors isn't much different - same spices and same grilling time. Like outdoor grilling, if you want the perfect steak, chop or chicken you have to grill with patience and a lot of attention (flipping). This grills sears well on high and grills well at a lower temp. My ten yr. old son is taking over and having fun grilling. My instruction to him is to flip each time the temp light comes on. He found out he can do it just as well as dad. This grill cleans easy and fast with hot tap water and the right brush. The first time you heat up this grill you should have it outside as it will season itself from the heat and smoke a little. I also recommend during this seasoning process to brush on butter or veg oil and even shake-on you favorite spices letting them burn into the grilling surface. Once properly seasoned clean it with hot tap water - now it's ready. Using the water pan as directed will give you smokeless indoor grilling, providing you don't burn your food! As the directions tell you - don't use metal utensil - don't scratch the easy clean surface. Through Amazon I got the Best Deal for this item. Thanks Amazon!
Customer Review: Easy as 1,2,3! Summary: 4 Stars
I received my grill today and after a quick read through of the instructions I was on my way to healthier eating. >_>
Pros
The Non-stick surface works perfect with a light coat of oil.
Very, very little smoke. (nothing a stove top fan can't handle)
Preheats faster than other reviewers led me to believe. (according to the manual; setting 5 should be used to preheat and to sear all food)
Cooking surface heats evenly.
The glass-top is useful for certain foods and nice to have.
1500-watts of power. For some reason this is not listed in the description.
Cons:
Cleaning the underside of the grilling surface can be difficult. I recommend using a Nylon brush.
The grilling surface cannot be submerged in water.
The Glass top does not perfectly fit over the grilling surface. (there are small gaps at the corners)
The user manual's cooking time table was a little hard to understand at first.
Remember to use only nylon/wooden utensils and always preheat with setting 5!
DO NOT USE A DEGREASER ON THE GRILLING SURFACE.
