Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Debbie Meyer Green Bags

Customer Review: All I buy is vegetables and these bags are great
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been doing a big shopping once every 2 weeks for years. I'm a vegetarian. I buy swiss chard, escarole, broccoli rabe, kale, lettuce, parsley and other green leafy vegetables each time. Other vegetables - eggplants, zucchini, bell peppers, etc always seem to hold up very well in the refrigerator for at least a week or more. If these types of vegetables are breaking down sooner, you might wonder how long they've been in your grocery store. The greens were the ones that would start to wilt, so I always used them up first. Since I've been using the green bags, every green leafy vegetable has held up - still looking like the first day I picked them up for at least 2 weeks or more. How many people hold onto their vegetables for more than 2 weeks anyway? For this period of time - or even a week longer - these bags are terrific. I haven't used a wilted vegetable in the many months since I've been using these bags - and I don't keep drying them out either.

Customer Review: They do work!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

These bags really do work. they worked for me!! I had washed all my vegetables and then stored them in this bag. I followed the instructions -- Put the vegetables in the bag, fold the bag over, and store. The items lasted over 2 weeks more than regular.

Little Tomatoes: Lasted almost a month, saw no wrinkles, only 2 or so rotted from inside. But the rest were fine.

Bananas: Probably lasted one more week than usual but these did not do too well. They did rot from inside out.

Cucumber: Did extremely well. Stayed fresh for over a month.

Avacados: These did really well too. They stayed fresh almost a month. They started to go bad from inside as it stayed in the bag longer.

Grapes: Did not too well. They probably stayed one more week extra.

Overall, for $10.00(20 bags at walmart) these are a must buy. You will save much more in price as you will have to buy less.

Customer Review: Unbelievable product!
Summary: 5 Stars

We we have a vegetable garden this year and are really into fruit smoothies using strawberries, bananas, blueberries, etc., in our juicer, so I thought I'd try these bags in the interest of saving an over abundance of vegetables & fresh fruit. I'm sold on them! On May 28th, I placed fresh peaches, bananas, Romaine lettuce and giant artichokes in separate green bags. Today is July 21st and one artichoke looks exactly as it did the day I bought it. Same for some peaches, no less, which tend to ripen way too quickly before we can consume them. I've also reused a couple of bags and they're still going strong. I'm so amazed by this product that I make a point of checking the bags' contents daily thinking that SOMETHING should show signs of deterioration but every day I'm proven wrong. The only down-side to using the bags is that my compost pile is suffering! EXCELLENT value and I highly recommend.

Customer Review: I think these have gotten a bad rap, b/c they work for me!
Summary: 4 Stars

I can honestly say that these bags help extend the life of my produce. I definitely notice a difference in how well things keep over time. I'm not sure what people's expectations are of these bags, but there's nothing that will keep produce forever. So I am happy if the quality of the food is extended longer than it normally would be. I think these bags may work better with some things over others. They definitely help my vegetables and some fruits. For instance, my Romaine is fresh and crisp after 3 weeks of being in my crisper in the bag:) Normally it would wilt at that time without the bag. It also keeps my apples, lemons, and limes for longer than usual.

I like the bags and they seem to work for me. But I might also add that I buy organic produce, which in my experience keeps fresh longer anyways. Also, I keep my fridge clean and uncluttered, with nothing packed or smashed.

Customer Review: Very disappointed
Summary: 1 Stars

I regularly buy large amounts of oranges, bananas, apples, pears, lettuce, and carrots. I thought these bags would be great, and easy for my kids to use. They are absolutely useless. I left two bunches of bananas on the counter, one in the bag and one with nothing. They ripened at exactly the same rate (and the bagged bananas required extra effort because I had to regularly wipe the bag dry as recommended in the instructions). I did the same with romaine lettuce in the refrigerator crisper: one head in a GreenBag and one in the grocery store bag with a lightly dampened paper towel wrapped around the head. Same results: there was no discernible difference. The carrots and apples fared better, but these are both items that tend to last longer anyway, so I do not attribute this to the GreenBag.

I am going back to my regular storage methods. These bags are a total waste of money.
