Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Debbie Meyer Green BagsCustomer Review: You have to follow the directions - or they won't work for you! Summary: 5 Stars
I like many others don't get why these bags are getting bad reviews. They have worked for me! I just cooked a 5 week old head of broccoli yesterday that tasted great!
Make sure to read the instructions, as you don't twist tie the bags shut, you fold the top of the bag over and place it against its side. This helps a little air to get into the bag.
I've tried these bags with all sorts of vegetables and fruits. I found that tomatoes lasted almost 4 weeks, same with Avocados. These bags definitely keep produce crisp and fresh! It's seriously like magic, I've been in heaven with these bags, being able to not feel so rushed to hurry hurry and eat it all up before they go bad. I can buy a little more produce - knowing they'll keep fresh better in the fridge. :)
I HIGHLY recommend purchasing these Green Bags as in my review - I have found them to be reliable. They're reusable and they do exactly as they claim they will: Keep vegetables and fruits fresher longer.
Customer Review: These bags work for me! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a package of the Debbie Meyer Green bags to see if I could help prevent the spoilage of vegetables in the crisper of my refrigerator. I am having a lot of trouble adjusting the temperature of my crisper and consequently, I lose a lot of produce. I have used them since Christmas.
I am using them to store red and green bell peppers, celery, green onions and mushrooms. So far, I have found that the mushrooms last at least 2 weeks without getting slimy, and the bell peppers do not spoil. I will see if they can keep the celery from going limp and the green onions from getting slimy.
I make sure the produce is dry before putting it in the green bag and then I just fold down the top.
I rinse the bags out and reuse them.
I have not used the bags for bananas as they never last long enough in my house to go bad.
After using the Green Bags for a month, I am very pleased with them and feel they met or exceeded my expectations.
Customer Review: BEWARE!!! NOT AS ADVERTISED. Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this product with such high hopes of preserving my fruits and vegetables and extending the life of each one. What a disappointment!!! The amount of money spent may as well have been thrown out of the window. The only one that ever showed any effectiveness was a large green bag that I used to store potatoes. The moisture that collected inside of these bags seemed to speed the rotting process. I tried wiping them out each day; I made sure that I was storing, folding and following every direction that was given--which were scarce to begin with. I should have been suspicious when I was unable to find a way to communicate my displeasure with this product. They claim that you can wash and reuse them up to 10 times but I never even got a decent second use of these silly things. If I had been able to find out how to return them for a full refund, I would have done that. I gave some to my daughter and she had the same experience. WHAT A JOKE THESE THINGS ARE!!

Customer Review: They work but don't expect miracles Summary: 4 Stars
These bags work by absorbing ethylene gas. Ethylene is a byproduct of ripening and also stimulates ripening itself, so by absorbing the extra ethylene, the bags slow down the ripening process. The active ingredient is apparently potassium permanganate, which is something you can get as a pond treatment for about eight bucks a pound, so I imagine if you sprinkled some in a shallow bowl and dropped it in your crisper, you'd get a similar effect for a lot less money. Or maybe fill one of those flow-through baking soda boxes with it?
I still use these things to wrap lettuce in, and they're quite handy for that purpose. They do nothing about starch conversion, so storing bananas in them will keep them nice and yellow but inside they'll still get brownish and gluey. Similarly high-sugar fruit like strawberries have bacteria working overtime on them which will also rot them nice and quick, and nothing short of irradiating them will prevent that.
Customer Review: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!! Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this product and immediately used it on my new groceries. I was really excited because I'm a vegetarian and this is what I mostly purchase. I figured it would save my vegetables and fruits. I really hate throwing them away. But to my disappointment my vegetables and fruits did not last any longer than they usually do. They also, started to perish a lot faster than without the Debbie Meyer Green Bags. I tried it on all sorts of vegetables and fruits. Asparagus got slimy and brown, lettuce went brown, tomatoes started rotting, string beans went brown, snow peas went brown, cucumbers got soggy, carrots developed a weird plastic taste and looked ashy, raspberries and blueberries got moldy. This all happened in about 3-5 days. These items last longer without the Debbie Meyer bags. Not only do they not work but most long vegetables don't fit in the bags and it's hard to fold over how it instructs you to do so. I also, paid $19.99 for these what a rip off!!
