Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica Super-Automatic Espresso/Coffee MachineCustomer Review: Amazing machine Summary: 5 Stars
This is just an amazing machine; I've shied away from superautomatics in the past because they typically take a lot of the control away from the brewing process, but this one actually does let you tinker with the grind and brew strength. The espresso output is very, very good with decent quality Espresso beans (LaVazza, Intelligentsia, Illy, etc.) and the milk frother works very well and is easy to clean. The price on this fluctuates quite a bit; mine with a birthday gift, but it seems to be vary between $500 - $900, so it might be a good idea to shop around a bit. The machine seems to be very well built, and it's thoughtfully engineered (everything slides apart nicely, which makes it very easy to clean, empty the used coffee, and add water.) Operation is simple, and it even comes with a DVD that demonstrates how it works. If I had to think of a negative it would be that the cup warmer isn't very powerful, but that's really not a huge issue. Overall, this is probably the best superautomatic for under $1,000.
Customer Review: FAST, EASY AND CONSISTENT GREAT LATTES Summary: 5 Stars
Our last machine was a Barista from Starbucks, and it lasted for many years. This machine was a huge step up not only in ease and efficiency, but also in cost. But we purchased ours at Bed Bath and Beyond with the 20% off coupon they seem to always send us that saved us over $100! Looks great, very easy to use, and three different ways to adjust coffee strength and amt. to ensure consisting espresso every single time. Making iced lattes has never been easier. We love ours. It's a fairly large machine, but seems like we are having to fill the water tank and espresso grinder after about every 6-7 double shots. Not a big deal for the ease of every espresso we pull. Sure beats what we used to have to do with the old Barista machine. easy to clean. I just hope it keeps working for many many years. There are lots of moving parts inside that makes this so automated. Steamer wand does an amazing job...almost makes too much foam. So stop comparing models and reading reviews, and buy it!
Customer Review: excellent machine for the money Summary: 4 Stars
I have had my similar machine (the 3200) for 8 years, needing to repair it only twice. As other reviewers have stated, the coffee/espresso has an excellent taste. I would call this a "semi-automatic" machine, because there is a learning curve to making the best froth (need to tinker with size of pitcher, techniques for circling the pitcher under the wand, etc.). For maintence, I clean it weekly, and attempt to de-scale it every few months. I was most impressed with DeLonghi, who repaired my machine free of charge (including shipping/handling) the first time it broke during the 3 year warrantee period. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars are the small nuisances that others have already reported: minimally adjustable wand, only 1 bean container (if you want to alternate decaf with caffeinated beans 1 coffee needs to be pre-ground), and tepid cup warmer. None of these are deal-breakers for me, and if my machine breaks beyond repair I would happily replace it with the same machine.
Customer Review: Worth It's Weight in Gold Summary: 5 Stars
Truly a great espresso machine; consistent, easy to use, makes great coffee. I've been using only Illy beans with it, and I feel like I can hardly go out and buy an americano or a latte at commercial stores because it just doesn't seem to taste as good as at home!
I think the first review really covered most of the details you need to know, but here are a couple of my favorite features. I love that it's easy to get inside and really clean everything out, pull the infuser out and rinse off, etc. It also has a very nice amount of complexity vs. simplicity with respect to the settings for amount of water, coffee, etc. in each cup. My only negatives would be that it's a bit hard to make a latte that's really as hot as you'd want it, and i think the water reservoir runs out fairly quickly. Overall I would highly recommend. My wife and I figured that we would use once in a while after we bought, but it's bean over 3 months now and we have yet to make a pot of drip again.
Customer Review: The closest thing to a professional coffee maker Summary: 5 Stars
This is one word the best espresso maker machine for your home. It is very easy to use, easy to clean and easy to operate. You have absolute control over the quantity and flavor that you like, you can make it light you can maker stronger, you can make a little you can make a lot. The milk frothier will heat your milk quickly and will produce a rich and thick foam for your cappuccino. All you need to do is at first is waste a little bit of coffee and water so you can set the machine to your liking and from then on enjoy the best coffee that you can get at home; actually once you learn the first setting just by common sense you will the best barista known among your friends and relatives. If I wanted to become the Devil's advocate I can find only two minor setbacks, first the milk frothier is to close to the machine and it is a little hard to move the milk pitcher around it; and the second is that the spill/drip tray fills up very quickly. Enjoy!!!
