I threw out my old stand mixer some years ago, swearing never to get another one if it couldn't mix the 7-cup French and Italian bread doughs which I make every week. Behold! Santa Claus deposited this on my kitchen counter two weeks before Christmas, and I am in love. It is a real work-horse, does an excellent job of mixing and initial kneading of any bread dough. You still have to finish kneading by hand - which won't upset any home-baker - but the DeLonghi reliably does the grunt work without whining or groaning. Its dough-hook action means there is no heap of flour at the bottom of the bowl, nor does the dough mass crawl up the hook arm... The resulting bread texture is finer and more even than when I was doing it by hand. The machine handled stollen, babka, a big pound cake and produced excellent genoise sponge with higher and more tender layers than I normally achieve. I believe that this mixer is the result of DeLonghi buying out British Kenmore, whose mixers were also reliable, heavy-duty workers. Unfortunately DeLonghi has not solved the Kenmore noise factor - it is still a loud motor. But it is also unshakeable & won't dance off your counter. If you have enough electric power and storage space, the DeLonghi is the best thing going for the serious home baker.

The stand mixer has a large 7 quart stainless steel bowl with 2 two-piece splash guard to prevent spills and splatters. And a flip-back design that allows you to easily add ingredients.Elegant and powerful, this stand mixer smoothly turns out cookie or bread dough, and beats enough eggs for omelets by the dozen. The mixer's silver-toned metal finish and deep 7-quart stainless-steel bowl add a sleek, contemporary look to any kitchen. Three large metal mixing tools are included: a nonstick dough hook, a nonstick flat beater, and a stainless-steel wire whisk. An optional clear plastic splash guard fits tightly over the bowl; a hinged section of the guard allows the addition of ingredients during mixing. A small release lever automatically raises the top of the mixer, allowing mixing tools to be inserted or changed. A large, easy-grip dial with varied speeds and a quick-action pulse feature starts the tools rotating within the fixed-position bowl. Fit the sturdy glass 40-ounce multispeed blender into the outlet on top of the mixer to whip up delicious fruit smoothies, or to purée soup. For best results, wash the metal bowl and tools by hand.
