Customer Review: BUYER BEWARE - Very Poor Customer/Warranty Service

I own two dehumidifiers, one is a DeLonghi and the other is a Whirlpool. All I can say is these units appear to be prone to failure since both mine failed in the first year. The real difference in the buyer experience came when I needed support. Whirlpool contracts with local service representatives, so getting your unit repaired is a snap, even if it's out of warranty (although it could cost $$$'s). DeLonghi has a terrible support model. Unless you happen to live in a town where they have a service center (closest to me is Toledo, OH and I live in Chicago!), you are out of luck. You must pay for all shipping and handling charges to send the unit for service, even if it's under warranty. Keep in mind these units are bulky and heavy, so the shipping costs alone could be 1/4 of the original unit cost. If your unit is out of warranty, forget about it. The shipping + repair costs would not be justified. I learned a very hard lesson after paying almost $200 for one of these units. Make sure you know how the company supports their product!
