Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of DeLonghi BCO70 Caffe Nabucco Espresso, Cappuccino, and Coffee BarCustomer Review: Delonghi No More Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this model a year ago and have already gone through 2 machines because of parts breaking down. The trouble I would have with this machine and Delonghi was evident with the first machine. Every time I finished making an espresso the steam would come out of every crevice on the machine. That wasn't too big of a deal, except that the clock would get funky and only display half of a number. I immediately took it back to the retailer and picked up the same model, thinking my first machine was just defective. I soon learned that I could have probably taken the entire stock home and still have problems. The portafilter for the espresso broke a month after using the new machine. I tried to buy a replacement from Delonghi in November and after writing many emails and making many calls, I cancelled my order in April (they will take your money and make excuse after excuse about your "backorederd" part). To make matters worse, the frother stoped pumping the milk through and only spit out hot water. So now I have a $150 coffee maker that makes a cup just as good as a machine 1/4 of the price. I'm never buying Delonghi *anything* again and I would stay away from this machine if I were you.
Customer Review: Wasted $100 Summary: 1 Stars
This machine was a waste of money. I received this as a gift to replace an old Mr. Coffee. The first one was mailed here-ordered from a retail company. It arrived with a broken carafe. The company we ordered it from tried to find a replacement but gave up and suggested we just return the entire thing. They sent us a new one at no charge.
It worked great- for about four months. Then it began leaking badly-coffee maker side. The company help line was constantly busy. After a couple weeks we gave up and my husband took it apart and fixed the leak as best he could. We discovered the internal parts are quite delicate. It worked again with lots of careful treatment for a couple weeks and then died completely.
After a couple months I gave up trying to reach the company and have simply resolved to not purchase DeLonghi anymore.
Compare this to our Mr. Coffee we had to put back into service-it still works and is ten years old. My parents have had a cuisinart (thermal carafe) for a couple years. They bought us one. I am skeptical of anything other than the standard brands at this point so we will see. Plus no expresso:(.
Customer Review: Good machine with some gotcha's Summary: 3 Stars
I've owned this product for about three years now and I have some mixed reviews about which I've listed below.
Pros
*Make a great cup of coffee / espresso / cappuccino.
*Simple to use (especially after some practice).
Cons
*Bad idea to have glass carafes. (They break easily and the replacements cost upwards to 1/3 of the total price of the machine.)
*Coffee doesn't come out very hot, (Most of my family microwaves their coffee to warm it up even though its just been brewed. Add this to the fact that the coffee is being brewed into a non-insulated glass carafe and you lose even more heat!)
*Coffee warmer turns on even during cappuccino / espresso brewing. (Huge waste of energy plus it can lead to an easy burn!)
*Flimsy feel. (The buttons, knobs and baskets all feel like they're going to fall off or break.)
*EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT PARTS (I think DeLonghi makes a ton of money from their replacement parts because the unit uses flimsy parts which break easily and the replacement parts cost a TON! Instead of a replacement glass carafe costing $6 DeLonghi charges $30!!!)
Customer Review: It's Rusting! It leaks steam, I regret the purchase Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this exact model about 6 months ago. On the top of the unit where you pour the water in there are two screws. Not only are the screws RUSTING, but they are placed in an area that one can expect to have some water run.... ESPECIALLY if the top "leaks" steam as other reviewers have commented. First 3 runs on this machine were great and I was excited to have a home expresso maker. So excited I threw the receipt and box away. A short 3 months later and my disappointment has grown.
So, not only does it have rusting screws and a leaking top - which causes you to lose expresso (the steam has to be forced through the filter) the pressure just isn't there, but it's unsafe. Very unsafe. This device does not have an autoshutoff feature. The inside of the unit that boils the water gets VERY hot. I would hate to think a fire could start because of this but in my opinion, it may certainly be possible.
Would I recommend this unit. Never. And, I would hesitate purchasing any DeLonghi product. Do your research. But this is one purchase that I regret.
Customer Review: I have had it 18 months and recommend it Summary: 4 Stars
I have had this unit for 18 months now, and have had absolutely NONE of the problems listed by the other reviewers. I have always used bottled water, and see no scaling issues even on the horizon. I seldom if ever put the lid to the carafe in the dishwasher--it is very easy to wash by hand; the plastic of the lid does not seem to be degenerating, so I don't expect it to break as another reviewer reported. The coffee can be made what I call American (not so strong) or straonger--I always run mine on strong). I like this maker because when you run it on strong, it adds strength and body to the coffee without adding bitterness, as do other coffee makes I have used in the past.
The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that using the steamer is not exactly intuitive, and I worry about cleaning the milk residue out of the steam pipe since it is attached to the espresso maker side (so I spend extra time water steaming it). Otherwise, no issues. It should, however, come with a second carafe, or you should get one if you serve a lot of coffee. I recommend this product.
