Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of DeLonghi BCO70 Caffe Nabucco Espresso, Cappuccino, and Coffee BarCustomer Review: Problem Features Summary: 2 Stars
Makes great tasting coffee, but the expresso seems weak even at the strongest level and even with cuban expresso. The BIGGEST problem with this machine is that it breaks very easily and has a couple unfortunate design flaws. We have gone through 2 in 2 years and have given up. The filter basket broke off the first one -- it just came off in my hand one morning and couldn't be fixed. The lid for the water basket just popped off one day and we could never snap it back on. Just the other day, the water basket gasket malfunctioned and now the machine is useless as it pours water all over the counter as soon as the water basket is put into place. Other annoying features are that the carafe drips ALL over the place -- we poured our coffee over the sink. Plus, more often than is barely tolerable, if we didn't snap the carafe into place exactly right, the coffee basket filled up and HOT coffee and coffee grinds ran all over the counter -- a very annoying thing to happen first thing in the morning on your way to work -- this has NEVER happened to us with other coffeemaker models. Now that our 2nd in 2 years is broken beyond repair, we're going to go with a different coffeemaker for sure! There's a reason this [money] coffeemaker is selling at [money]!
Customer Review: Mixed feelings Summary: 3 Stars
I agree with some of the other reviews that have been submitted. This machine is an affordable product that yields a decent cappuccino and coffee, not the best I've had but pretty good considering the price. I have also had problems with descaling issues and have had the machine repaired once already. When I called DeLonghi about the second breakdown, they informed me that it would not be fixed under warranty for 2 reasons: first, they questioned whether I had followed the maintenance guidelines (i.e. they didn't believe me), and second they said that since the warranty period had expired (it had been 13 months only since I purchased) they could do nothing about it. I contered with the argument that this was the second repair, and although the machine was not an elite product, I felt that the $150 I had paid (at the time) was too much for something to break the month after warranty was over. So, I took it apart myself and "fixed" it. It worked horribly for a while yet, but I had switched to using my bottled water instead of tap water, and I found that this eliminated my scaling issues, and now, incredibly, the problem is gone! Who knew. Still too much work for something this expensive. Next time I will save up and buy a better product.
Customer Review: Worst product ever bought for the $$ Summary: 1 Stars
The first one leaked from the basket and bottom of machine in 6 wks. I exchanged it at the retail store I bought it from. The second one lasted 8 mos and it now leaks (more than the first one ever did) and despite never using abrasives to clean it, the teflon coating on the warming element is flaking off in chunks. I called DeLonghi Canada and got a run around re repair until I DEMANDED to talk to the President! Got a General Manager of Customer Service who explained that this product is a mid line product and not without it's faults. He finally agreed to send me another one (same model unfortunately) free of charge. Will see how long it lasts. Don't have much hope for it to last over a year! If I had read some of the reviews about the quality of the machine, I wouldn't have bought one. My understanding from the GM of CS at DeLonghi Canada is that it is the bottom end of combo units so therefore has issues and other items which cost more $$ don't have these inherent problems.
My advice if you haven't already bought this unit is don't!! Either spend more $$ and buy their top of the line unit or don't bother with a combo unit unless you are prepared to go through 3 in less than a year and only if you get pushy with the company!!
Customer Review: Mostly Great Machine, So Far! 8 ) Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this little beauty at Lowe's at half price (it was on Clearance) before I ever read these reviews. Although I'm a serious Starbuck's, et al, addict I've never made my own espresso 'til now. The only complaint I have with this machine is that the frother is so short, I have to dangle it off the edge of my countertop to get my milk in (I'm a latte fiend!). The manual included with the machine is mysteriously silent on the use of what looks like the place to pour your water for the espresso (as another Reviewer mentioned) - The visual instructions show you pouring your water into the space with the screw off cap, which is what I do. No real clue what that "other" space is really for. There are exposed screws showing, so I really don't think it's for water.
At any rate, the only trouble I'm having so far is timing the milk steaming and the espresso brewing, since you have to move the dial to "Cappucino" AND turn the steamer Knob above the frother just as the espresso hits the proper level in the carafe. I'm thinking practice will make perfect. BTW, I bought Espresso Roast Starbucks Ground for Drip Coffee makers at the store, and it really DOES taste like the real thing!
Bottoms up and Cheers!

Customer Review: JC Summary: 2 Stars
This product has been working just fine so far. I haven't tested out the espresso maker yet but I'm confident it will be fine. My problems with this product are:
1. It's very cheap looking. It's cheap and bubbly-plasticy looking. That might not be a problem for everyone. And honestly it shouldn't be a problem for me either. I only paid $50 for it. So I don't know what I was expecting. It looks fine for that price.
2. One piece (the cover to the compartment where you put the water) was broke when the package arrived. All the other parts are so cheap they don't seem to fit together very well. For instance, I can't swing the coffee filter dish closed if the coffee pot is on the burner. The filter dish swings low. The Espresso filter thingy is hard to lock in but that might be the case with all espresso makers. i've never had one before. And one of the heating buttons (the one for making over 6 cups) didn't work when I got the package. Over all I think the presentation of this product is very Shoddy. However the coffee tastes alright so really it's worth exactly what I paid for it. I was being cheap.
On a better note, it came pretty quickly. and it has an attachment that lets you make 2 cups of espresso at once.
