Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of DELONGHI 12cup COFFEEMAKR PRGRMBL. GLASS CARAFECustomer Review: Good Coffee but Some Quirks Summary: 4 Stars
The coffee that comes out of this maker is great. (Do not use the Aroma setting. It is not worth the extra time.) The coffee is hot, the keep-warm plate doesn't burn the coffee but does keep it nice and hot. And the darn thing looks good.
Now the quirks:
- If you don't get the basket in just right, the coffee will not drip into the carafe and will eventually overflow. (There is an alignment tab, but you can still close the holder if it is misaligned.)
- If you open the basket holder with the carafe handle off to the left (as shown in the picture on Amazon), the carafe will tumble out of the maker and smash on the floor if there is no coffee in it.
- You cannot clean greasy fingerprints off the brushed aluminum trim
All-in-all: Be careful and you will be rewarded with a great cup of coffee
Customer Review: You get what you pay for Summary: 2 Stars
My wife and I did not want to invest heavily in our at-home coffee maker and chose to buy this one. It has been troublesome. Every pour is a potential disaster. I've been drinking (and pouring) coffee for about 10 years, so I thought I'd catch on to the trick of not dribbling coffee everywhere but I never have. The quantity of coffee toasted to oblivion on our unit's warming plate can be measured by the pot at this point.
There's a safety mechanism that sort of prevents the brewed coffee from dripping while the carafe's in use, but sometimes the lid catches (or something), resulting in the basket itself being disengaged. It's cumbersome. Part of the problem, no doubt, is that I'm trying to use it in the wee hours of the morning, but it's a COFFEE MAKER for heaven's sake.
Customer Review: Compare this to Cuisinart Summary: 5 Stars
I wrote a review of our new Cuisinart DCC-1200W under that product. In that review, I mentioned that we also bought a DeLonghi for our RV about the same time. This is the model DeLonghi we bought at the local Target.
This coffee maker, quite simply, is better designed and made a better cup of coffee than the Cuisinart right out of the box. The Cuisinart here on Amazon is about twice the price of the DeLonghi.
If you're in the market for a new coffee pot and you read all the glowing reviews of the Cuisinart here on Amazon, I urge you to consider this pot instead.
Customer Review: Makes a great cup of coffee Summary: 5 Stars
I had read a few not very favorable reviews about this coffeemaker, but decided to buy it and try it anyway. I'm so glad I did. It makes great coffee and has all the bells and whistles I need. Plus it is not expensive! I like the option to have a slower drip for deeper coffee flavor. The carafe doesn't drip and I like the design of the maker and the carafe. I very much like that it comes with the gold filter and that it has the automatic start and shut-off functions. This machine makes much better coffee than any of the other drip machines I have owned. And I do love a good cup of coffee.
Customer Review: Cold coffee, poor design Summary: 1 Stars
I've had this coffemaker for 4 months now, and I am finally ready to throw in the towel and look for a new one.
It makes only lukewarm coffee, and the "filter" basket is poorly designed. Even though it looks shut - it may not be. It must click shut, or no cofee will be made. Also mine sticks shut, and I have to wrestle it open every time. I have to pull it out to the edge of the counter to fill the resevoir each time also. Just an all around huge disappointment.
