Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of DCI I Am Not a Paper Cup 12-Ounce Porcelain Travel Cup with Lid

Customer Review: Great Cup - Avoid The Pitfalls
Summary: 5 Stars

Some common complaints found among negative reviews:

- The lid smells. Terribly.

True. It really did stink out of the package. On the Amazon listing for the replacement lids, I found this: "Soak in boiling water with three lemon slices or wash normally using toothpaste instead of soap." Worked like a charm, and the smell was gone.

- The lid leaks.

Perhaps for some, but not for me. The only time I get leaking is when I overfill the cup. It holds only 8 oz., and filling it to the absolute brim makes it leak until you've drunk it down a bit.

That being said, I love this cup. I've long searched for a ceramic to-go coffee mug that was insulated, and this is it. It doesn't keep coffee piping hot, but it keeps it warm, mircowavable, and far better tasting than plastic. And its a conversation piece to boot.

Customer Review: Second.Worst.CoffeeCup.Ever.
Summary: 1 Stars

STAY AWAY!!!!
This high-maintenance mug will leave you heart-broken.

Bought a ceramic/silicone combo coffee cups because of the smell factor that stainless steel cups eventually take on. Nothing prepared me for the stench that this came with using this cup ONCE!

Washed this cup and lid, poured on cup of coffee (black) into it and immediantly some chemical reaction happened to the point of after the second sip, my stomach turned and I dumped everything out left the cup in the sink and grabbed the standby coffee cup to head to work.

The stench and staining that ONE CUP OF COFFEE has damaged at the molecular level is amazing.

Save yourself from wasting $20, go to the Salvation Army and buy up a bunch of cermaic mugs and proceed to destroy through commuting. $20 should buy about 40 cups.

Customer Review: Right Look, So-So Service
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a fun cup guaranteed to get noticed when you take it for refills at coffee shops or to your next meeting. It's durable and easy to clean and the top is a very flexible rubber.

However, when you fill it with hot liquid, the cup heats up very fast and retains that heat for a long time--good for the beverage, not so much for handling. Also, in case you didn't know, 10 oz. is basically a little over a cup of liquid (as in the measurement of one cup, not a random glass from your cabinet). This means you don't get to carry a lot with you, and some places don't offer 10 oz sizes when trying to get a cup of coffee, meaning you're paying for coffee you aren't drinking.

So it's fun, but not overly practical. Great for the occasional beverage drinker but probably not super for the real hardcore coffee addict.

Customer Review: Looks great sure.... but doesn't work at all!
Summary: 1 Stars

I received this cup as a gift and was super excited to use it at work. Unfortunately after my first use I can't see at all why this mug has gotten so much hype and everyone raves about it. First off, it doesn't insulate work a darn! You might as well put it in a real paper cup! Seriously though, I just made a cup of tea with boiling water and a few minutes later reach over to pick it up and the cup is so hot that you wouldn't want to pick it up. This seems completely opposite to the entire purpose of the cup. Secondly because it is double wall it holds very little liquid to begin with. So I would say that if you like it for the design aspect go for it, but if you're expecting to actually use it for the intended purpose, get a real insulated travel mug that actually works. Sorry "I am not a paper cup" I really wanted to like you :)

Customer Review: After months of use, I still love it
Summary: 5 Stars

I waited a long time before doing this review to be sure the seal remained tight. It has, and I love the cup. It holds a cup of coffee not a huge amount. It's probably equivalent to a small Dunkin Donut coffee. If you like a larger amount, this is not the one for you. I know some have complained about he lid leaking. I don't see any problem. Just like any travel cup, you need to put the lid on carefully. I have never had a problem with this cup--no leaking at all. I have, however, gotten coffee from coffee shops where they didn't push the lid on right. I am careful about making sure the lid is on properly. No problem.

It goes through the dishwasher, including the lid, in the top rack and is just the same today as it was when I got it. Now I have to get another one for my son so he will leave mine alone.
