Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of DAZER II Ultrasonic Dog Deterrent

Customer Review: Works as described
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this mostly to use on my neighbors constant barking dogs every time I walk out of my house. I must admit I was very sceptical about if it would work or not. The first time I used it I tried it on my own dog first. I got am immediate reaction from her and due to this I decided to take advantage and train her out of bad habit's. She no longer begs for food while my family and I are eating or jumps on guests that visit. When she hears the tone she immediately stops what she is doing and runs to her doggie bed. I was amazed that it worked this well. I hardly have to use it on her if she just sees it she knows if she don't stop what will happen. a 1 second shot is all it takes. As for my neighbors dogs. They did stop barking or at least it interrupts them for a while. They can't really see too well through the fence so they have no idea where it's coming from so I think its more confusing to them. It is less effective at a distance or through barriers like fences but it still gets them to stop and wonder for a few seconds. I would recommend this to any dog owner with training difficulties. But don't forget to reward them as well!

Customer Review: Worked great for the first few weeks, but now the dog knows...
Summary: 4 Stars

Very Very skeptical at first about this, we have our backyard neighbors dog that never shuts up and I hate that dog. It barks at everything, shadows, birds, UPS truck, it hates the fed ex truck... Originally, since everything else failed from getting it to stop barking (my wife wouldn't let me buy a pellet gun to zing it in the rump). I did an impulse buy on the dazer II. The range on this thing is the issue. When the dog is inside of 20yds, it runs and cowers under the porch and doesn't bark, however, per the documentation, it is not supposed to work that far. The dog now knows that when our back porch door is opened, and it's time to shut up or go hide. I just wish they made a more powerful dazer III for the dog owners.

Overall, my use of this thing is opening the back door, pointing it at the dog (unobstructed line of site) and dazing the dog. It works better inside of the 15yd limit on cold days. I'm now carrying it with me when i walk my dog and the other neighbors dogs bark at us...all of a sudden, walks aren't that bad...It is directional, and will not bother your dog who's watching the annoying dog get dazed.

Customer Review: Effective and Fantatic Against small/medium dogs
Summary: 5 Stars

I live next door to a rather small dog that is out in the fenced front end. After I come home from a hard day's work, this litte schit dog barks at me with a really annoying high pitch. If the owner is out there, he tells the dog to shut up with limited effectiveness. When in the background, the dog would bark at us when we do gardening or are just out there. We have never done anything to antagonize the dog and I find it ridiculous to be barked at on my own property. So I got this Dazer II. It clearly aggravates the dog because he takes off running inside to the house. Now (I believe) he runs inside when he sees my car coming cause I don't see him outside much anymore. This thing is even effective from 60 feet away (from across the street with the dog barking from the house window).
Different dogs are annoyed by different pitches. I happen to find this dog's pitch, but the dazer may not be the choice for big dogs. It didn't have any effect the one time I tried it. However, there are products out there that bark back at the dogs in a range of frequencies...ensuring that the target dog is annoyed.

Customer Review: Great protection for my passive pooch
Summary: 5 Stars

My dog is not aggressive, but he has been attacked more than once by very aggressive dogs, both times the other dog was off leash, the owner was nowhere to be seen, and I ended up standing in the middle trying to keep the dog from getting at my pooch.

I wanted a passive way I could defend my dog. I found the Dog Dazer online and decided to give it a try. It doesn't injure the other dog, just scares him. The way it's designed you can avoid zapping your own dog too, the sound travels straight out from the device, so unless you point it down at your own dog, he shouldn't get hit.

The Dazer works great! I test it occasionally to be sure the batteries are still good (had it for 3 years now) but I have only had to use in in defense of my dog on 3 occasions. Once on a dachund (seriously) the dog ran straight through one of those 'invisible fences' to get at my pup. He got within 5 feet of us, I hit the button and he paused then approached again, then I hit the button again, and he snorted and trotted off back towards his home.

It was well worth the $20.

Customer Review: Pretty good at close range
Summary: 3 Stars

First off let me say I know its for dogs. I have 2 sneaky cats that seem to outsmart me and run when they hear me sneaking up to get them for doing things they KNOW they aren't supposed to do.
I bought this device to train my cats to stay off of the furniture/kitchen counters/tables etc... I have tried everything including spray bottles/water. This device, even though made for dogs, is pretty good in most cases. One of my cats seems to be too smart for it. He squints his eyes and pretends it doesn't bother him, when I stand up he runs :) so one of my cats seems to be able to tolerate the noise and the other one barrels to the basement and hides for a period of time then sneaks back up later. I have used it on dogs in the neighborhood when people let them come into my yard to make a mess... if they are at a close range it seems to work. Other times, if they are any real distance away, they just turn to look at me as to ask the question "did I just hear something?"
I would say works best at about 15 to 20 feet. Now, if I could just find one to train humans to clean up after their pets :)
