Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of DAZER II Ultrasonic Dog Deterrent

Customer Review: It works, but not for all dogs.
Summary: 4 Stars

I have three dogs (2 Chihuahuas and a Pug). My Chihuahua's will get going, then the Pug starts, and it gets to a point of extreme annoyance. After looking at all of the options, I saw this and decided to get it a try.

The day I received this I put it close to my own ear to see if I would hear anything. There was not a "sound" per say, but certainly vibrations were felt and it was not pleasant. When the dogs started to bark I firmly stated, "no bark" (of course they didn't listen like usual) and then I pointed this at them and pushed the button. My female Chihuahua (who usually gets everyone going) immediately stopped in her tracks and ran the other way. My male Chihuahua did a little sidestep, but put out a few more barks. I pushed it a second time (which my female was hiding under covers at this time wondering what in the world was going on) and he stopped barking finally. My pug is very old and I think he has lost some of his hearing, so it didn't work well on him.

I only had to use it once for my female Chi to know if I say "no bark" and she does not listen, I am going to get the "loud noise thing". Actually, we are to a point I don't even need to push the button with her. I just hold it up, she sees it and not another peep is heard. The good thing is she is my instigator, so if she is controlled, it has quieted down the entire gang. This product certainly works on her and has been wonderful for my situation.

Now, if my male Chi were the instigator I think I would be in some trouble with this product because I can tell he does not like the sound, but he does not react as quickly as my female. It takes a few tries with him, but again, I have not needed to continually use it as much as at first because it works on my female and when her barking is controlled, it calms everyone else down.

Would I suggest purchasing this? Well, yes and no. It does work, but it seems on only some dogs. If you are willing to spend the money to give it a try and then discover your pet does react to it, it will be a lifesaver. Yet, I will be realistic--you could purchase this and then find out you have one of the pets that does not react at all to this, in which, you will need to send it back or eat the cost. Unfortunately, from my current knowledge, there is no way to tell if your dogs will react to it unless you have had prior use with such a product. This is the reason I gave this 4 stars because it works wonderfuls for one of my dogs, but not the other one that has good hearing.

Customer Review: I'll be ... dog gone!
Summary: 5 Stars

I never really expected this to work ... but it did.

A neighbor moved in across the road in my rural community. He lets his golden retriever run free. The bitch is aggressive and territorial which wasn't a problem until she started expanding her territory onto our land. I understand this is common when dogs are allowed to run free. It is legal where I live. I don't own a dog.

When her perceived territory began to include our mail box and drive where we pick up the paper we began to have a problem. The neighbor is an ignorant brute who couldn't care less.

When my wife told me that the dog, which had been growling and circling both of us, was beginning to get close, stopping, staring and snarling within about three feet of her, even trying a couple of exploratory nips, I knew it was time for intervention. Clearly the dog was working up the courage to attack. My wife has been around dogs all her life and is no shrinking violet. The dog was beginning to look dangerous.

I did a little research and found myself reviewing the Dazer II on Amazon. I didn't expected it to work, but what the heck. I also bought a can of Halt in case it didn't. There's always the shotgun if things escalate.

Here's the story. Get tools and train wife in their use. (She always gets the paper in the morning, I get the mail in the afternoon.) Dog appears in the morning and barrels across the road "growling and looking pretty determined this time" making a beeline for wife. Wife pulls Dazer from pocket as dog crosses 15' proximity line. One second beep and dog halts in place and stares, growling. Another two second beep and with puzzled expression dog retreats across the road and sits down in her drive and watches.

We haven't seen the dog for a week. I got the mail today, armed of course, the little no account mop looking dog who is the retriever's side kick comes running across the road. He stops in the middle of the road and keeps looking over his shoulder. The bitch is hiding behind a building peeking out at me. Dog gone!

The dog has always given me a wider birth than she has my wife, but the experience clearly transferred. I am really amazed. We'll still carry the Dazer for a while when we retrieve the mail and paper but I'm hopeful. Sure beats having to deal with a distraught neighbor after you've killed his dog. I'll report back if there's any kind of follow up.

Customer Review: Fantastic!
Summary: 5 Stars

My family's plastics business made the outside case for the first Dog Dazers that were made in the 80's. When we were kids, my father attached the Dazers attached to each of our bikes so we could ride in our neighborhood without getting run down by the neighbor's dogs. They used to run out barking and wipe us out at the bottom of a hill. I didn't realize that they still made them and was so excited to see it when I did a search for it. It worked fantastic then so I decided to purchase one for our 14 month old black lab. We are expecting our first child in about a week and our dog is still in the puppy stage and is VERY loud and energetic. She barks non-stop to get attention when company comes over and is crazy about my husband. He cannot sit on the couch without her jumping all over him and trying to kiss and snuggle with him. He is the only one that she does that with. Other than that, she is very well trained and behaved. She is a very, very intellegent dog and we were nervous about how she would be around the new baby if my husband was holding her on the couch or playing on the floor with her (or if she would wake her up with the barking), so we knew we needed a solution. We have tried a shock collar but that didn't do anything for her. As soon as my husband took this out of the package he tried it out when she was having a barking episode. He told her "No" and when she didn't stop, he hit the Dazer. She immediately stopped barking and laid down. She had no idea what was going on. About 10 minutes later she tried barking again. She was given the warning and then when she didn't respond she was "dazed" again. She was fantastic for the rest of the day! Later on we let her out of the kitchen where we keep her gated and she went nuts over my husband. He again told her "no" and to calm down, when she didn't respond, he dazed her. She jumped off the couch and was extremely calm for the rest of the night and we were able to let her stay in the living room with us for hours. It was so amazing to let her be a part of the family and not constantly hear barking or get jumped on. She has been perfect since then!!! My husband wasn't quite sure if this Dazer would work when I told him about the one we had when we were kids, but he is totally sold on it now!!! I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone for a training device, for an annoying neighborhood dog or just to carry on walks or bike rides.

Customer Review: What a great piece of equipment
Summary: 5 Stars

I hardly ever write reviews on here but had to for this piece of equipment. My inconsiderate neighbors, like many people who have written reviews, are the real problem. They have a zillion dogs and just don't seem to care, and living in a nice neighborhood is no guarantee you will not have this happen because I do. Anyway, one dog inparticular, a new one I guess for them *sigh* is a young dog that just loves to bark at the top of his lungs at me over my privacy fence (yes I said over b/c they have a deck that is higher which makes it pretty much useless as a privacy fence). So I was going crazy trying to figure out what to do, I love dogs and didn't want to harm him in any way, but these people are so inconsiderate I doubted they would do anything if I asked them too. So I googled how to stop a dog from barking and found a great site that recommended this product. I thought for 30 bucks it was worth a try. Well today I got my chance to try it out. I woke up to the dog barking at the neighbors on the other side of me, funny thing is I heard someone yell "shut up, gooooossshhhh!" really loud, I feel their frustration. So I went outside and the dog went ballistic at me. I walked right up as close as I could (about 6' or so) and showed him the dazer and then zapped him for a split second with it. He shut up immeadiately, jumped down and went somewhere, but not up over the fence. Wow, I thought, so I turned around and went inside. About 5 minutes later I heard a bark, just 1 or 2, so I looked out and he was back, but very cautious, looking around. So I decided I would reinforce it like I have read to do, so I went back out, this time, FOR THE FIRST TIME, he did not bark at all when he saw me. In fact when I got to the fence he actually jumped down where I couldn't see him. I just waited though, b/c I really wanted him to know it was me that did it. About 1 minute later he popped his head up to look around, saw me and I zapped him. I heard a little "wimper" and he was gone, haven't seen him for hours. BOTTOM LINE, I wouldn't have taken the time to write this review if I didn't think this product was FANTASTIC, and worth EVERY PENNY I spent on it. I am not affiliated with any company in any way, just a frustrated homeowner with inconsiderate neighbors, thank you Dazer II for giving me some piece of mind!

Customer Review: Yes, this really does work
Summary: 5 Stars

Like many folks, we have neighbors that have two very obnoxious dogs. They are small but loud and if they are outside, they are barking. They will bark at anything and more annoyingly... nothing. If we venture outside the barking becomes violent. What is most irritating is that it is difficult to become angry at the dogs because it is the owners that are to blame. They stand by in complete silence when their animals mis-behave and will do absolutely nothing to correct their poor behavior.

My wife & I finally broke down and bought 2 devices - the Dog Dazer and the Super Bark Stop. One works, one does not.

This device (Dog Dazer) is amazing. You open the box up and you hold a device in your hand that is about the size of a cell phone. It has a simple button on the top, a red LED and a strange looking metal disk in the front. You press the button, the LED glows red but nothing else appears to be happening. In fact, you wonder if the product is defective because it is completely silent and does not vibrate or anything. Other than the LED there is no indication that anything is happening at all. But target this at a barking dog and you will see just how effecting this device is!

In fact, we have a guinea pig and when we engage this device anywhere in the house the animal jumps an runs; birds out side will immediately take to wing and fly away, cats run faster than you've ever seen them run and our neighbors dogs head for high ground when we press this device. Within 5 minutes they had gotten the message and stopped barking and were cowering at the back door to be let in - a Godsend! One week later and the barking has all but stopped. This thing has even trained our neighbors - they now understand just how bothered we were with the barking and no longer leave their animals outside for hours on end. And if they do bark, they open the door to let them in rather than leaving them out to bother the rest of the street.

So just who has been trained? I don't care because it is now quiet and that's what we wanted. Yes, this does work - at least on small animals. Even though it is in-audible to humans make no mistake, this is loud and effective for dogs. They hear it and run away and will soon make the connection between their barking & a blast from a Dazer.
