Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisipro Donvier Yogurt Cheese MakerCustomer Review: Very convenient! Summary: 4 Stars
I love my yogurt cheese maker - I just wish it made more than 1 cup at a time! It takes up much less space in the fridge than the other method I had previously been using - placing a clean cloth over a colander inside a large bowl in the fridge!
I only gave it four stars instead of five because it would be nice if it made more at a time, as well as... the first time I used it it made the cheese gray from the mesh. After that it hasn't though. I even rinsed it before I used it, but I guess you should thoroughly wash it with soap and water and scrub the mesh before use. So - the first time your cheese may be gray, but I have had no other problems since and I use it all the time!
Customer Review: Great labane maker - But that's not enough for real labane Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fast easy way to make labane cheese. The traditional way involves seething the yogurt through a hanging bag of cheese cloth or any cloth to the same effect(the secret is to rub salt on the outside of the cheese cloth to prevent the cheese cloth from smelling). But this product allows simplifying the procedure and allow it to take place in the fridge. Even though I am very satisfied with the product the labane didn't come out quite like I am used to and like, and I attribute it to the quality of the yogurts in the states. But I haven't yet tried it with yogurt I made myself or with a real yogurt from the middle east. The yogurts here are just not sour enough.
Customer Review: Very nice item! Summary: 5 Stars
I have tried making yogurt cheese the "old way" with a colander, cheesecloth, etc., and found it to be messy and not worthwhile. I have to echo the sentiments of others here that this is a much better way. Takes up less space in the fridge, cleans up very easily, more sanitary, and the sealed container keeps out refrigerator odors. Plus I found that the draining screen's wave design bottom seems to help speed up the draining process when compared to the "old way." The result is a nice, compact product with fewer soggy spots. Definitely worth the price, you probably won't find it cheaper anywhere else, and it seems to be very durable, too.
Customer Review: Great Addition To Any Kitchen Summary: 4 Stars
A must for any yogurt lover and/or person trying to eat healthily. Very easy to use. Simply dump yogurt in the container, snap on the lid, and place in your fridge. In a matter of hours the liquid will drain and collect in the bottom of the vessel leaving you with smooth and rich yogurt cheese.
Cleans easily and thoroughly with soap and water.
My one criticism, albeit it a small one, is that the container is just a bit too small to hold an entire container of 2 lb. yogurt without mess. This is easily resolved by filling it not quite full and adding the remainder as the liquid drains thereby making more room for the rest.
Customer Review: So Much Easier! Summary: 4 Stars
I make "yogurt cheese" mostly to get the resulting whey, though I also enjoy some yo-cheese mixed with jelly on my toast. I have been using a colander & cheesecloth. Very economical but what a mess dealing with that cheesecloth. This was totally worth the $15 for the sheer fact that i can dump it in the dishwasher! Not to mention it's nice to have a lid over it while straining. The cons: It only holds 3 cups. Seems odd as most yogurt is sold & made in quart (4 cups) sizes. & the mesh is not quite as fine as I would like it for my homemade yogurt, I usually end up with some milk solid "sludge" that settles to the bottom of my jar of whey.
