Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisipro Donvier Electronic Yogurt MakerCustomer Review: Easy to use, easy to clean. Summary: 3 Stars
I have had my yogurt maker for a few months now and am very pleased with it.
I make a batch of yogurt once a week. It took a while for me to find the right mix (even the brand of milk made a difference!) but now I get the same result each time.
It's only fault: The recipe included only fills each cup half way. I tried to double the batch to fill each cup, but it hasn't worked so far. I left the yogurt mix in the machine for up to 24 hours and it barely begins to solidify. I have tried several times and it just doesn't work. It's a bit deceiving.
I also have the yogurt cheese maker and I'm especially pleased with it. It's great for dips and for making a cream cheese like spread for toast or bagels. You can add anything you want to it.
Customer Review: Makes wonderful yogurt and saves lots of money Summary: 5 Stars
Great yogurt maker! So easy. No gums, gelatins, etc., just skim milk and culture. I started my first batch with a couple of spoonsful of Dannon plain full-fat yogurt (their lowfat has gelatin added). I haven't bought yogurt since! I just save a little from the last batch to start a next batch. When I was buying the Dannon all the time at at least $2 per quart, it was like paying $8 for a gallon of milk! I add 1 cup of non-fat dry milk to 5 1/2 c. skim milk for a batch. The extra milk solids sort of sop up the exta liquid so there is no runny whey on top. Whole milk doesn't need the extra powdered milk--makes a luscious guilty pleasure. The BEST thing I did was to buy a second set of jars. We make yogurt nearly daily and don't have to empty the cups to start some more.
Customer Review: Tasts just like Dannon at a fraction of the cost Summary: 5 Stars
I'm very happy with the purchase. I use MilkmanŽ instant lowfat dry milk. It contains 5% milk fat before adding water or 1/2% milk fat when mixed with 4 cups of water. I use 2 envelopes to 4 cups of or reverse osmosis water so it comes out to 1% milk fat, the same as the DannonŽ I was buying. The 4 cups will fill each of the 8 individual containers about 80% full, which is convenient. I don't heat or boil it as it says to do with regular milk. I add two heaping tablespoons of previously made yogurt. I set the timer for 12 hours. It comes out tasting just like the DannonŽ at a fraction of the cost.
Sometimes I eat it plain and sometimes I mix in a couple heaping tablespoons of Smucker's Simply 100% Fruit Strawberry Spread. It contains no added sugar.
Customer Review: A great yogurt maker Summary: 5 Stars
I read the reviews while I was thinking about ordering a yogurt maker and made my choice of this one. I got it a couple of days ago and made my first batch of yogurt. It turned out great! My son and I love yogurt and are very happy with this purchase. I did also purchase the yogurt cheese strainer with it and I'm glad I did because while the yogurt was wonderful, we like ours much thicker. I also used a normal thermometer along with the one that came with the yogurt maker because some of the reviews said that it didn't work properly. When the stirrer/thermometer said it was time to add the starter, my thermometer was showing 150 degrees so there is a discrepancy. I just continued cooling the milk to the desired temperature and after that I had no problems.
Customer Review: Why would anyone need this machine? Summary: 1 Stars
This yogurt maker (as well as virtually every other yogurt maker I've seen) is useless. The hard steps in making yogurt are boiling the milk and waiting for it to cool down. From there on, the only thing you have to do is add the starter yogurt culture and keep the resulting milk mixture warm for a few hours. To do that, you can just put the pot of milk under a lightbulb and that does the trick, or stick it in the oven and turn on the oven light or the pilot light. It is only this last step -- keeping the milk mixture warm -- that this machine helps with, and you don't even need it for that. Waste of money; if you want to make yogurt, get yourself a nice non-stick pot for boiling the milk instead, that'll be much more useful than this yogurt maker.
