I've got this sitting beside my Back to Basics toaster/egg poacher, and I've found it indispensable for getting poached eggs out of the little tray without scraping off the teflon. I don't tend to reach for it for what it was intended for (to slice hard butter), but it may just be because I'm not used to doing it yet.
We've always kept butter out soft on the table, but it does get rancid if we don't eat it up quickly, so what that means is we eat more of it than we should. Once I change my habits, I think I'll like this butter slicer/spreader for what it's for. In fact, I could cut a few butter curls to use with my toaster/egg poacher, then put the butter back in the fridge. It's hard to clean if you use it for anything other than meltable butter--I made the mistake of using it to spread cream cheese--but it's dishwasher safe. A useful purchase on the 4-for-3 promotion.
