Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle Maker

Customer Review: Follow these instructions and you won't be disappointed
Summary: 5 Stars

So after getting sick of paying $10 for a waffle at the diner i decided to get this waffle iron. I could not be happier. I could not believe how many negative reviews there were. So after not having ever done a review before now, I decided to explain it as simple as can be.....

1) ALTHOUGH ITS A NON STICK SURFACE, GREASE THE PAN. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A NON STICK SURFACE THAT IS TRULY NON STICK WITH ANYTHING!!!!! POTS, PANS, or COOKING DEVICES. I use a Misto sprayer filled with olive oil that I use for everything that I cook because store bought non stick sprays contain propellants and other chemicals/poisons that I am trying to avoid

2) Use a measuring cup for the batter!!!! I know it sounds simple but I guess people lack common sense. The instructions it comes with even says USE HALF A CUP OF BATTER!!!!!! Its extremely rare that the batter overflows when I do this. just keep in mind different batter mixes will have different ingredients and therefore different consistencies.

Customer Review: Poor Design Vents Steam Towards Handle
Summary: 2 Stars

I'm returning this waffle iron. First, I was surprised that the slider button was plastic. Seems very cheap. If i use a bit of pan spray I can make waffles that do not stick, so that's ok. The highest setting 5, was not enough to make a golden brown and crispy waffle, so I give it about 1 minute extra each time.

But, the worst part is the design.
The steam is funneled to the front of the waffle iron - where the handle for the top lid is. I end up using a hot pad or mitt each time just to open the lid. There is NO WAY I could let my 13 year old - who loves to cook - use this waffle iron due to the poor design.

The waffles are fine.
And, if you are fine with using a mitt each time, go for it.

But, I'll be searching for a model that vents the steam away from the user.
And, I'll probably look for a more sturdy model - perhaps cast iron instead of plastic on the inside.
This one is fine for the money, if you are ok with the design.

Customer Review: Good waffles ;However, Read Instructions carefully.
Summary: 3 Stars

I just made my first batch of waffles today on this maker. Silly me
didnt read instructions carefully bef ore proceeding.. On their
Instructions For Use they tell you when to put waffles in, etc.
THEN at bottom of page under note: they tell you might be good idea
to first spray non stick coating on for first use then go on to tell
you it might be good idea to always do this when making waffles.
Yes, they tell you they put non stick coating on it..but believe me,
you definitely have to spray an oil on it or brush with paper
soaked in oil. There is nothing pertaining to how to take care of it
after waffles done. I guess they think you probably have enough
sense to know to wipe it off with damp paper towel. I think it would
have been more helpful if under instructions for use they had put
first-spray maker with oil. I will say the waffles did taste good, that
is after i used a fork to get them off(due to not spraying first).

Customer Review: does the job, but gets hot
Summary: 4 Stars

I think many of the negative reviews must be due to user error and offer this blunt review: this thing makes waffles, but you gotta fine tune what you put in it - and yes, the handles get so hot you cannot touch them without pot holders/a towel. Here's what we gleaned: you MUST only add 1/2 cup of waffle batter (recipes provided in booklet with waffle maker) - otherwise, the thing will overflow and cook unevenly because it will be thicker in the center and not close down all the way - regardless of how hard you press down. Also, you MUST spread the batter out evenly to cover anywhere you want it to be - we even tried adding extra milk to the batter to make it spread on it's own, but NOPE - it just makes for weird, rubbery waffles. So get this machine because it is cheap, only add 1/2 cup of mix, spread it out and keep it at temperature setting 2 for perfect, crispy waffles. But don't touch the handles. Oh and it being nonstick is a joke, spray something on there in between each waffle.

Customer Review: Makes the waffles I like! And does a great job!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm not a big fan of "Belgian" waffles, with their big holes and crustiness... My favorite waffles are the kind made by this type of waffle maker, which is the round variety with 4 quarters and roughly a half inch thick. These waffles have smaller holes, and a nice golden crispness. The temperature controls work about as well as any other waffle maker, just watch until the light changes, but you can hear the temperature control click from across the room if you listen closely so you don't have to stand over it. Cleanup is a bit of a hassle not being able to just put it in the dishwasher, but it's still pretty easy with a damp cloth. This waffle iron is a bit better made than the no-name brands I've gotten in the past at places like Wal-Mart or similar stores. If you like the kind of waffles I described, you'll love this waffle maker. If you're more of a "Belgian" fan, then this isn't for you. Get one of the Waring Commercial Style makers instead. I, however, love this one!
