Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle MakerCustomer Review: The Batter Matters Summary: 5 Stars
This waffle iron works great, as long as you use the right batter recipe. If you use the recipes that come with the iron, you'll be disappointed. They're soft and bland.
Try Carbon's Golden Malted mix. Or Google a recipe. Here's one that works well:
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup whole milk or buttermilk
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Butter and syrup, for serving
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; mix well. Add the milk, vegetable oil, egg, sugar and vanilla and mix well. Let the batter sit for 30 minutes.
Preheat a waffle iron. Do not use non-stick spray on the waffle iron; the oil in the batter will allow the waffle to release easily. Follow the directions on your waffle iron to cook the waffles. Serve immediately with butter and syrup.
Enjoy!
Customer Review: Great little waffle iron for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I didn't expect too much from this waffle iron due to it's size and the price, but I have to admit I was surprised at how well it makes waffles. There's no guess work with how long will it take as the light indicates the waffle is ready. Waffles are always perfectly done. I've found the 3 setting works good for us. I love that it's compact and easy to store as we have a lot of kitchen gadgets and I'm running out of space.
With any waffle iron there will be the occasional overspill--even top of the line professional grade. I found clean up to be quick and easy with this one. Also as far as it getting hot...well yes it does. How else are you suppose to make waffles? You need a good hot iron to make them. Just as I don't allow my kids around other kitchen appliances, knives, etc, the same is true with this product.
I use Pam cooking spray to prevent the waffles from sticking and it works good.
Cleaning tip: Try the George Foreman grill sponge to clean it. Works great for me and it gets into the crevices easily.
Customer Review: Best $30 product thrown down the garbage chute, ever! Summary: 1 Stars
This product is by far the worst purchase in my life. I'll admit, I didn't do any research on waffle irons but how can you not trust a name as widespread as Cuisinart?Easy...as a very competent chef, with years of experience in professional and personal capacity, I consider myself capable of making waffles. In fact, I've MacGyver'd waffles in a bind on a camping trip with tent rods! No Joke! But this product makes everything about waffle making awful. Most notably: 1. Non-stick my foot. If you've ever wanted all your waffles sliced down the middle across their plane, this is the one for you. 2. Easy cleanup my other foot. Break out your chisel and toothbrush, because you'll need them. 3. Thrown down 20 stories of garbage chute, this produces the most wonderful acoustical symphony $30 can buy. The brushed stainless surface perfectly matched and resonated with the rusty, raw clanginess of sheet metal. Musical indeed. Do yourself a favor and just ignite $30 on your own. Don't go through the hassle of purchasing this product.
Customer Review: Terrible appliance! Summary: 1 Stars
My husband and I own more kitchen appliances than most people because we are avid bakers and cooks, and we are picky - we'll pay whatever price we need to in order to buy quality. This unit is NOT quality. The so-called non-stick surface DOES stick, it is impossible to clean since you cannot do more than just "wipe" the surface clean, which is unsanitary to say the least and does not adequately clean in between the grooves. That means you have to spend much more time cleaning this unit entirely by hand than you should have to. (I suggest you buy a unit that diassambles for cleaning). Also, although the many temperature settings seem like a good idea, the quality of the waffles vary greatly depending upon what batter you use and which temperature you select, so you end up with too many variables for consistently great waflles unless you only use one setting and one type of batter for the rest of the life of this unit. I absolutely would not buy this or give it as a gift. (We received ours as a wedding gift and it is now in the trash)
Customer Review: Love it Summary: 5 Stars
I don't understand all the negative reviews for this product. I've had it for a couple months and love it.
First, it does get hot. Duh!! It's a waffle iron! I admit I burned myself the first time I used it...you just have to be careful with it, like with your stove, your knives, and all the other dangerous things in your kitchen.
Second, I spray it with Pam before each waffle and have had ZERO problems with things sticking.
Third, make sure to use no more than or less than the amount of batter suggested in the Cuisinart manual/recipe book. Some cookbooks just assume your waffle iron holds a certain amount of batter and using their amounts will lead to a big mess.
Fourth, it cooks waffles very fast. The middle heat setting seems best to me.
The only problem I have is that it's hard to clean all the little holes, but I think that would be a problem with any waffle iron.
Overall, I love this thing. It's not fancy, but it gets the job done very well.
