Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle MakerCustomer Review: Worked well, then it died! Summary: 3 Stars
This cute little waffle iron was on my wife's Amazon wish list, so I bought it in time for Christmas 2004. (Generally, appliances are forbidden as gifts in our household, but she made this one exception. Go figure.)
Anyway, it worked well, if you ignore the fact that the batter almost always oozed out the sides. I say "oozed," because the little waffle iron that could abruptly died last week.
Waffle irons are very simple devices, made with technology that matured decades ago. The only explanation is that Cuisinart designed it to fail. But wait... according to Amazon's features list for the product, there is a 3 year warranty.
Cool! Except for one thing. Amazon says you have to contact the manufacturer if the product breaks after 30 days. Tough luck buddy.
Have you ever tried to contact a major appliance manufacturer for replacement of an item that sells for $30 at retail? Neither have I. My time is too valuable and life is too short.
So, Amazon wins. Cuisinart wins. I lose... and so have several others who have written reviews on this page. Save your money. Make a pancake. :-)
Customer Review: Nice simple and affordable regular waffle iron. Summary: 4 Stars
After using an old square Black & Decker waffle maker my mother got years ago, my girlfriend bought me a nice new round one one for my birthday last year. I didn't like square waffles (the batter never seemed to fill the squares, and I just wanted a simple round regular waffle maker.
I was surprised when I viewed this item on Amazon today and saw it only had 3.5 stars. I've been using it for over 9 months and don't think it deserves that low of a score. I haven't had any major problems with it, only suggestions for better use. The darkness selector could be a little more sensitive (as it currently is, you can wiggle it back and fourth about 1 whole level and you can feel that it's not changing anything.)
The indicator light could be raised a bit more, so you can see it better from across a room. I know some of the more expensive waffle makers have an audible signal to indicate done, which would be nice as well, but not a necessity.
Note that these are not Belgium waffles, but rather the thinner regular waffles.
This waffle maker pulls about 950 watts when the heating element is on.
Customer Review: Use it often and enjoy it EVERY time. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this waffle iron approximately two months ago...not from Amazon, as it happens. I think that it's the first Cuisinart product I've ever owned.
I wondered for a long time whether it made sense to have a waffle iron: would I actually use it often enough to make it worth the money, clean-up, storage space? Frankly, I'm surprised that this purchase worked out.
In my experience, it works very well. It is easy to use, easy to clean, and makes very fine waffles (I use the basic -- and tasty -- recipe included in the owner's manual).
The waffle iron heats up quickly. The best setting for me is approximately 3.5 to obtain the level of "brownness" I like. The waffle is done in short order.
I've noticed a slight odor when the waffle iron is "on" -- either heating up or cooking. Usually that sort of thing bothers me a great deal; but the waffles are SO good SO fast...
LAST: I'm guessing that the polar opposite reviews (on this product as well as others) may be attributable to which (out-sourced?) factory made it. Different factory may equal different quality.
Customer Review: Great waffler Summary: 5 Stars
I am so surprised by the negative reviews of this product. We've had this waffler for a year now and have used it A LOT. I'd estimate 75 times- usually once or twice a week. We've never had a problem with sticking and the waffler is going strong. The waffles turn out great, every time. One thing to consider, waffles require you to use oil in the batter. It's what gives them the nice crispy golden brown outside, and I imagine it helps with the sticking too. Now, I've never encountered a waffle recipe that doesn't call for oil, but it makes me wonder if those who have problem with sticking are simply using pancake batter??? We tried other wafflers with our regular batter recipe and the results were awful- heavy and dense. This waffler makes a nice light waffle. The selector really works to get the desired done-ness, it's a great feature and we've found the results to be very reliable. In short, we think this is a great product. Our experience with other wafflers indicates they're not all created equal, and this one is quite a good model. We like ours so much we've completely stopped making pancakes!
Customer Review: an insult for cuisinart factory Summary: 1 Stars
i think cuisinart factory people should be ashamed of them selves offering a product like this round classic waffle maker this will tarnish their reputation for quality products i purchased a cuisinart round classic
waffler at jc penny it was only a few months old and i was using it and i gently set it down on my kitchen table then part of the thermostat came off the small plastic piece that sits on the thermostat broke and i was so frustrated on how this waffler was built that part of the thermostat should have been one peice and not a piece of plastic barely glued on.. its sad it came from china and not america this waffler is no longer use about
the thermostat slipped in to the body of the waffler and i only paid arround 20 dollars for this peice
junk of a waffler.. i wish i had my repciept i would have taken it back and ask for a refund
stores in my area dont carry too many varietys of wafflers with better thermostats built in to them
i need to get another variety of waffler with better termostats and less likely to break
