Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle Maker

Customer Review: looks great, but broke in 5 uses
Summary: 1 Stars

This waffle iron felt more substantial than others, the price seemed good and we liked the heat control and the 5 year warranty. Other reviewers complained of the smell - especially when new. We saw that too. It was very strong at first but diminished over the next 4 uses. It was still there on day 5, but not strong. For our recipe we found that the only way to ensure no sticking was to spray the upper and lower surfaces with oil before each batter. The book says not to spray - that didn't work for us.

The big problem happened after waffle day 5. Just cleaning the iron with a cloth and the grey "handle" on the temperature selector came right off. Actually, it broke off and the metal tong that it attached to was free to disappear from the base. It felt really loose and because the attachment method was broken, there was no way to put the grey knob back on and have it stick. I think the knob provided some resistance so that the temperature control wouldn't flop all around.

Bottom line: We are very disappointed and have returned the unit. Total time: 30 days since purchased, 5 uses. Very disappointed and we are not getting another one. We have upgraded to a more expensive Oster flip. Fingers crossed!

Customer Review: The best waffle maker on the market!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned three or four waffle makers and none of them compare to the quality of this gem from Cuisinart. If you're picky about waffles--and why shouldn't you be?--then spend a little extra on this model and get effortless results. Here's what makes this a GREAT wafflemaker:

1) An accurate thermostat--no surprises when you open the lid
2) A consistent heating surface--avoid hot spots or undercooked waffles
3) A variable timer--essential if you have more than one waffle color preference in the family
4) Smart design--it stores on its side, taking up a LOT less space in your cupboard
5) Easy to clean exterior--cleans up with a damp paper towel
6) Dependable non-stick finish--unlike cheap waffle makers, the nonstick finish on this model does not wear out
7) Cool-touch lid--never burn your hand on a waffle maker again

I am genuinely thrilled with my Cuisinart waffle maker and I believe it's an absolute bargain. If you're used to spending big bucks on store-bought waffles--or if you have a cheap, junky waffle maker at home--treat yourself to this nice little unit. It's a low-cost luxury. Plus, you'll have a fun time making waffles (and impressing your family and friends!). Bon appetit!

Customer Review: So you want an "original" waffle maker?
Summary: 3 Stars

We were looking for a traditional round waffle maker, not a Belgian "deep" waffle maker. These have been hard to find and the Cuisinart WMR-CA looked to be the best of the few we found, so we purchased and in a few days it arrived. It makes a waffle a bit smaller in diameter than our old waffler and is definitely not as heavy or solidly built. This hasn't proven to be a problem yet, it just slides around a bit more on the counter. We like our waffles on the crispy side which is possible with this maker if you set it to "4" (highest) and wait an extra 30-60 seconds after the ready indicator comes on to remove your waffle. The handles stay cool. The unit heats reasonably quickly. We have had no sticking problems yet. It does not handle overflows very well, dumping the extra batter on the counter, so you need to measure carefully and then stick with what works for your batter. We had over 10 years of service from our last waffle maker and I really don't expect this one to last that long because it is just a bit flimsy. But it should give us an acceptable run using it once-a-week as we do and the cost was reasonable so this looks like good value to us. Bring on the Maple Syrup!

Customer Review: Solid Product with Minimal Issues
Summary: 3 Stars

Finally, a classic/traditional style waffle maker - when the market seems to be dominated by Belgian waffle makers...

Overall, I am pleased with this product. However, please note the following issues:
1) The instructions say, despite it's teflon coating, you should use non-stick spray. Please, heed this warning and do as they say. I made the mistake of not using any and I had to peel waffle shards from the maker, which leads me to the next issue...
2) While this product is sufficient and I do not, in the least, regret buying it, I reccommend spending a little more money on a waffle maker that has removeable plates for easy washing.
3) The instructions say to use 1/4 cup (I think) of batter. It takes much less. If you use this amount, be aware that it will make a giant mess on your counter when you close the lid by gushing out the sides.

Best part about this maker: The browning dial. It is nice to be able to set the dial for more or less cooked waffles, especially when cooking for many people with different preferences.

If you don't mind a little extra clean-up, definitely buy this product - well worth the low price!

Customer Review: Worst I've ever owned!!
Summary: 1 Stars

This is, without a doubt, the WORST waffle maker I've ever owned! In the past I have owned cheaper models that made decent waffles. When the last one died my husband bought this model based on the name with the hope that it would last longer. It may last forever but I still won't have any waffles!

Problem one is that using the recipe that the manufacturer supplied and pouring in a half cup of batter as recommended we end up with batter all over the counter. Annoying enough, but due to the design of the sloped bottom with the slide to set for how brown you want your waffle you end up with batter caking in the opening and consequently inside. This results in having to disassemble the iron with a screwdriver to clean it.

Problem two is that even if you coat the iron with oil or butter you end up cooking the batter onto the iron and having to scrape off bits of inedible waffle.

We did find a work around to using this iron. If you turn the setting up to five and ignore the oozing batter you can achieve a very brown but edible waffle after you cut off the raw edges.

I highly recommend buying something else!
