Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle MakerCustomer Review: The best waffle maker I've ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned both costly and less expensive waffle makers. The Cuisinart Round Classic Waffle Maker is the best I've owned.
The heat up time is fast. Waffles cook quickly. The ready/not ready lights are consistant so there is never a bad waffle.
There are five settings to for waffle doneness. I've used setting "3" and my waffles are a perfect golden brown. The trick though is to plug the waffle maker in on setting "1", then adjust from there. It is also recommended to turn the setting back to "1" before unplugging.
I suggest spraying the iron with cooking spray before the first use. When the iron is plugged in, there is actually a slight click as the light changes from red to green. I find that helpful because I can turn my back for a second while the waffle is cooking.
Although this maker is for round waffles, it is easy to make square waffles by cutting down on the amount of batter used. I actually find that the this waffle iron uses less batter to make each waffle. I also don't find that it overflows like past models. I haven't leaked any batter.
I suggest using 1/4 c per waffle. I actually just spoon it in the center of the iron. When the iron closes, the batter will automatically spread.
Clean up is quick (especially with no overflow). Just let cool and wipe down. Its small size also makes storage easy.
Great overall iron. I've found this iron consistantly priced online within a $5 range and seems fairly priced across the board.
I give this 5-stars and highly recommend this.
Customer Review: Love this little appliance Summary: 5 Stars
A couple years ago I was looking for a traditional style waffle maker. I do not like Belgian waffles (I think they soak up too much syrup and get mushy faster). I found this Cuisinart round waffle maker and received it as a gift for Christmas. I LOVE it!!! Yes, the lid is a smidge "wiggly" but that does not affect the quality of waffle or functioning of the machine. I love the red and green lights and darkness adjuster. Our waffles come out perfect every time, and I don't have to sit there and wonder "is it done?" I have found that 1/3 c. of Betty Croker's recipe (old school Betty Crocker) is the perfect amount to make a full waffle without spilling out the sides, and is generally true for other waffle recipes I've used. We have a small family, and while I think it might be nicer to have a larger waffle maker to feed them faster, this little unit it just right. You could always start making some ahead of time and keep them warm in the oven, otherwise one waffle cooks in approximately the time it takes me to eat one, so you can have a steady flow (some might eat faster--my 16 yr old often has to wait a few minutes). I read in the instructions on how to 'season' the non-stick coating and we have never had a waffle stick. They always come right out. Without quesiton, I would recommend this waffle maker to anyone looking for a traditional style waffle maker (and find the old Betty Crocker circa 1950's waffle recipe and make the richer waffles with sweet milk. They are delicious!). It's easy to use, small to store, sturdier than cheapo plastic versions, and a good price.
Customer Review: Belongs in Satan's Kitchen Summary: 1 Stars
The first time I used this piece of infernal machinery, I made a standard Bisquick waffle batter and fired up the maker. After the stench of burning plastic and dying wishes was exhausted from the kitchen, I sprayed some Pam on the cooking surfaces and dropped some batter. And the batter still stuck. What the? Not only that, but I almost burned my fingers from the steam coming off of the cooking batter as I tried to lift the lid. The handle in the front should be a loop, not a solid piece of plastic, because that would allow steam to escape instead of being trapped right where you need to put your fingers. Derrr.
I cooked the entire batch of waffle batter and threw them all out. I did find that a generous spray of Pam, applied every time I dropped some batter, did make it easier to remove the cooked product from the waffle iron. Not that the waffles fell easily out of the waffle iron, no. At least I was able to remove them in one piece.
I used this thing for the second time today with even worse results. This time I used Ina Garten's pancake batter mix, figuring "how bad can that be?" Really bad, let me tell you. I've tried raising and lowering the temperature, I've tried thicker and thinner batter, I've tried waving a dead chicken over this thing, I've called for a young priest and an old priest. It ain't workin.
All the other Cuisinart appliances in my kitchen are shaking their heads in disbelief, wondering how this interloper, this shamer of their good name, found its way to their happy home.
Customer Review: LOVE, Love, love This Waffle Maker Summary: 5 Stars
I read Amazon reviews on several waffle makers before selecting the Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle Maker. I've not owned a waffle maker for over twenty years (it was avocado green...LOL) because I disliked making waffles as they were either overdone or underdone. Making waffles was always a guessing game and I ended up more disappointed than pleased. I took the gamble purchasing this waffle maker since it was fairly inexpensive and people gave it great reviews.
I'm not one who makes waffles from scratch all the time, only occasionally. I don't use junk pancake mix. I have been using Lehi Roller Mills 100% Whole Grain Heart Healthy Hotcake Mix (bought at Costco) since this product seems very nutritious compared to lesser brands. I was initially concerned about sticking, even after spraying the grids with a little Pam. My concern was not really necessary as my waffles came out perfectly. I've used it 1-2 times a week since I bought it and I can't say enough good things about it. My waffles taste fantastic with a little butter and pure maple syrup. YUM!!!
The best feature of this waffle maker is the variable baking setting. Being able to control the temperature is one of the keys to successful waffle making. Setting this waffle maker to "3" makes a perfect waffle with the mix I use.
Cleaning is breeze and considering I live in an apartment, storing it upright is perfectly achieved in the tight confines of my kitchen cabinets.
I highly recommend this waffle maker to anyone.
Customer Review: Lasted a Month Summary: 1 Stars
This seems to be a product people either love or hate. Put me down in the deeply disappointed column. I could live with the very loose and wiggly hinge because even the best appliances can have their quirks. However, the five temperature setting was a joke since the control had enough play in it to swing between two settings without meeting any resistance. There was no way of telling whether it was, for instance, on setting 3 or 4. Also, my definition of non-stick is that the waffle doesn't stick to the appliance once it's done cooking. I had to pry every single waffle out of this iron, no exceptions; the only difference was the number of pieces the waffle would end up being by the end of the process. Only with generous applications of spray oil every two or three uses could I hope to get a whole waffle at once. The final straw was when I was using this waffle maker for the fourth time (Sundays are waffle day around here) -- the knob to the temperature control fell off and the lever it attached to retreated to the inside of the appliance. That resulted in a three point toss across the kitchen with nothing but net into the trash.
It appears from the reviews that the quality of this piece can be wildly divergent. It either works to perfection or it isn't worth a plugged nickle. I gambled my $$ and hoped I would get a good one; I didn't. If you aren't in a position to waste money, save the cash you would have spent on this and wait until you've got enough to get a good quality appliance.
