Customer Review: Non-stick coating comes off

I've now gone through 2 of these in 18 months. The non-stick surface chips off easily and I did not use a metal utensil on it. It just seemed to rub off while I was cleaning. We got a few good months out of both of them, but for now I don't want to serve my children chipping teflon (or whatever it is) in their grilled cheese sandwiches. I'm sure I could send it back for another one from Cuisinart (which I did w/the first one) but I think I will try another brand.Customer Review: Works great for a my kids quick hot sandwich!!!

I have this item and it works great for what's it's intended for. It makes fast grill cheese sandwiches for my kids and so far it's easy to clean. Nothing sticks to it yet but if you want a spray of PAM will work. I use just basic white sandwich bread and they fit fine. I would recommend this for a simple fast sandwich. Give a try..
P.S. Why I didn't give it 5 stars because I would like to be able to remove the plates for easy cleaning.

This is a great little appliance for making good grilled sandwiches FAST! I was surprised that it only took about 2 minutes to grill 2 sandwiches. A green light comes on when they are done, and it's right on - when that light comes on, the sandwiches are perfectly browned. I would have given it five stars, but I think it would be easier to clean if the grilling plates snapped out like some larger sandwich makers out there. I dont know how any body liked this. Its hard to clean, and doesnot have any basic timer. What all it has is red and green light, and most of the times its not accurate. if you open the lid thinking it is ready beacause of green light. it is never ready.
omlette is the toughest thing to clean if it falls at the back. It is a nightmare if you are planning to add ketchup or something.

I've had this sandwich maker for a year or so now. It's great for grilled cheese. It cooks them perfectly and it works well if you use big slice brown bread like I do. The slot is made for smaller type bread but I let my bread hang over a bit and it still seals the sandwich up. A few times cheese has leaked out while cooking and I wait until the unit cools down and wipe it with a wet cloth and it's back to clean.
