Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart TOB-175BC Convection Toaster Oven/Broiler, Brushed ChromeCustomer Review: First-time toaster/convection oven owner Summary: 4 Stars
The oven is handsome and sturdy. It comes with a really good quality broiling pan and drip tray. It heats up surprisingly fast, but doesn't heat up the entire room. It takes up little counter space and is easy to clean.
I've made cookies, oatmeal bars, pumpkin pies, muffins, baked chicken and meatloaf so far. Food browns faster towards the back, so I just rotate the cookie pan or pies once (turn it so the back is at the front.) It doesn't matter when cooking meats.
The rack tends to slide out when pulling out trays from the oven, so just be careful. There is the option for regular baking or convection baking. When using the convection option I reduce the time by 25%, although not using it is quieter.
I've seen other ovens in retail stores that cost way less, but they look and feel more cheaply made. I'm pleased with my purchase.
Customer Review: Helpful kitchen item Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to replace the basic model that I've had for about 6 years that suddenly died. I think the convection feature is very nice since that is an upgrade for me and it seems to speed up meal preparation significantly.
I'm not crazy about the crumb tray being removed from the back but I wouldn't let it keep me from purchasing the item.
Toasting is similar to the prior item and is basically OK but not as good as a stand-alone toaster. I do like the electronic controls compared to the more basic model with dials.
For further information, Cook's Illustrated rated toaster ovens this month in their magazine. This one is "recommended with reservations" The Krups FBC412 is supposed to be better but I had already purchased this one. It is slightly more expensive but is supposed to toast better.
Customer Review: I Love This Oven! Summary: 5 Stars
Recently I did some research on the internet regarding toaster/oven/broiler-convection style ovens. I decided upon the TOB-165 Cuisinart and I have been happy from the time I took it out of the box. I have adapted some of my recipes for main dishes to the oven. It cooks in half the time the big gas oven does. And garlic toast, wow! It is very easy to clean; a simple wipe up with a non-abrasive cleaner and it is back to looking new again. It will really come in handy this coming Thanksgiving with handling side dishes. Now I plan on purchasing a food processor and I believe it will definitely be a Cuisinart. I do not find the crumb tray a problem. Some people do not like the way it has to be removed from the back. This is a sweet appliance. My son sent it to me with a card saying, "Happy Cooking," and it has been.
Customer Review: A toast to this toaster... Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this toaster oven approximately 6 months ago and it is fantastic. It is very stylish and goes well with our stainless steel appliances. The front touch control panel is flat and easily wipes clean. There is a crumb pan that cleans up easily by removing it from the back of the oven. It's controls are easy to use and make toasting or cooking anything very simple. It toasts and cooks evenly - which is quite amazing compared to most toaster ovens in the market today. The convection function works well and is quiet. There is plenty of room inside - we place 4 waffles in it at a time. My only complaint - I wish the display was lit. This is a nicely engineered and manufactured product - well worth the money when compared to those priced less. Cuisinart has made a great product in this toaster oven.
Customer Review: The best toaster oven I've ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
I usually get appliances like this as gifts and, after throwing away the umpteenth $19.99 model I'd received, I decided to get one that would actually last for a while. This oven really gets the job done. It's large enough to bake casseroles and frozen pizzas. It broils, it bakes, it makes toast and it has convection heat (which I'd never had before - now I don't know what I'd do without it). I haven't turned on my regular oven since I got this one home.
It is also very easy to clean and the crumb tray pulls out so you can wash it instead of the ones tilt and you have to carry them over to the sink and try to shake them out.
It's a little more than I wanted to spend on a toaster oven, but it does way more than a toaster oven too. I highly recommend this product.
