Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart TOB-175BC Convection Toaster Oven/Broiler, Brushed Chrome

Customer Review: Very nice design with excellent functionality
Summary: 4 Stars

First the bad: the crum tray is only accessable from the back side of the oven. We had another toaster oven by toastmaster, which allowed crum tray access from the front. Also, the footprint size of this appliance is 2 inches wider than we would have liked, taking up valueable counter space. The unit is pricey. Now for the good: the toasting/browning is perfect. It does a great job of not burning the edges of bread. The convection feature is awesome. And the settings/operation of the oven is very easy to understand. We owned a Black and Decker and a lightwave by Toastmaster. The toastmaster was an excellent oven until the top element broke. The manufacture did not stock replacement parts. Essentially, the product can only be replaced and not repaired. The B&D did not toast well. Burned the edges consistently. We have had the Cuisinart for two months and are pleased so far. Also, we have had good experience with our cuisinart coffee maker.

Customer Review: Cuisinart Toaster Oven - Pretty good
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased the Cuisinart after reading tons of reviews on different toaster ovens. I wanted one with convection and a good "toast" setting. I used to have a krups toaster oven and it worked great but could not toast bread for anything. The Cuisinart toasts pretty good. It's not as good as a standard toaster. But, I don't think I will ever find a toaster oven that can toast as good as a standard toaster. The broiler and convection are awesome. Especially now with summer coming, I hate to have to turn on the big oven for small jobs. It's so much cooler to be able to use the toaster oven. On the downside, it's kind of big. But, it looks good, so I guess that's not too bad. Also, for the money you would think the inside tray would pull out when you opened the door. It doesn't. Also, the crumb tray is a pain to clean. It opens from the bottom. So you have to unplug the unit and take it over to the sink/trash to clean it. Not fun.

Customer Review: Great energy saver for warming
Summary: 5 Stars

My wife loves her Cuisinart toaster oven. So far, she's used it solely for warming -- rolls, pizza, cheese puffs, desserts... -- so toaster performance is not an issue for us. The manual does caution not to toast on the 2-position rack in the highest position (the rack can be flipped for a higher/lower height and slid into either of 2 side-slot levels). It heats up quickly (and beeps 5X). The supplied 9.5x11" (inside) baking pan is heavy-gauge. After reading one of the reviews here, we went to Costco to save a few bucks (sorry, Amazon) and got their version, which looks identical to the TOB-175BC. The timer's also not an issue for us, since we normally touch conv bake, set the temp (in 25 degree F. increments) , hit start, give the contents the touch test when the time seems right, then turn it off. The handles on the sides are convenient for moving it off the counter (where it looks good) when we need extra space.

Customer Review: The whole family loves this oven!
Summary: 5 Stars

I never thought I could get my family to stop using the microwave, because they thought it was essential and didn't believe in my concerns about its safety. So, I kept telling them about how much better food tastes when reheated in the toaster oven, and how allowing just ten minutes to reheat would be worth it when they tasted their food. It worked! Now they use it almost all the time. I also bought two Baker's Secret toaster oven baking pans, which we use like heatable plates, then wash in the dishwasher.
The quality of the toast is much better, and since we all use different types of bread, it's great to learn your favorite settings and know your toast will be just like you want it. It's not as fast as our old toaster, but who cares?
As a comment on another review I read, the timer is not too loud for us, just right in fact for our noisy household. I highly recommend this oven!

Customer Review: Very happy with my Cuisinart Convection Toaster Oven/broiler
Summary: 5 Stars

This convection toaster oven is great!! I have had it for a couple months and have enjoyed it very much. It took me a long time to go through the many reviews on this site, but with the listings of a consumer magazine & my husband I decided on this toaster oven. Like anything purchased, there are pros and cons. The nice things about this toaster oven: the convection oven feature, nice medium size, 2 levels for adjusting the tray, well built and attractive modern design. The things I don't like about this toaster oven: the grates do not pull out automatically when the door is opened, the grate in the lower position does not have an automatic stop to prevent pulling the tray entirely out by accident, and the crumb tray opens from the back of the unit. Even with the not so good items about this toaster oven, I would still recommend this one. It is definitely worth the money I spent on it.
