Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart PSC-400 Stainless Steel 4-Quart Programmable Slow CookerCustomer Review: Great product. Timer and various heat levels make crock pot an option Summary: 5 Stars
I threw out my old crock pot years ago because all I ever had was mush. This has 4 settings -- high, low, simmer, and warm, as well as a timer. It will turn off when the food is done and keep it warm till you get home.
There is a free cookbook to Kindle users "Not Your Mother's Slow-Cooker". This has many yummy recipes that work well in the crock pot. You can do a lot more than just pot roast and beans, including sugared nuts, meatloaf, blueberry cake and chocolate truffles.
I work all day and my kids get home and hour or two before me. It's nice to have dinner for them. It's even nicer when they clean up after they eat!
Customer Review: Very poor quality Summary: 1 Stars
Poor quality all around. My first experience was removing the unit from the box - The handles on the sides of the unit are plastic, coated with a metal plating to give them that polished look, almost like a thick layer of metal foil. The foil on one the handles had lifted and shredded somehow so that I was left with a deep cut on reaching in to pick it up. Anxious to give the slow cooker a try while the wound healed, the pot cracked on the first use. As others have noted, this $35 replacement part (almost half the price of the unit) is not covered by warranty. This is my first and last experience with Cuisinart. Garbage.
Customer Review: Performs very well Summary: 5 Stars
I am a long time slow cooker user. With my family downsizing I needed a smaller 4-quart capacity slow cooker. This model is great for a family of 4. It is compact - fits right into a small cabinet when not in use. No bulky electronic timer hanging off the front. The electronic controls are very easy to set. It has 4 settings - high, low, simmer and warm. The timer is settable in half hour increments. The unit heats and performs very well. The lid is very light weight. The silver colored plastic on the lid and side handles does look cheap, but it is functional. Everything cleans up easily. All in all, a definite winner.
Customer Review: Get a PSC-400! You'll love it. Summary: 4 Stars
I'm a poor cook, at best, and I have been able to get great results from this slow cooker from the first try. The included recipe/instruction book has some useful recipes (others are too complicated for me).
You should understand something about the Programmable function, that I didn't, and that is that the start time is not programmable. The unit begins to cook as soon as it is turned on. You can control the heat level and the length of time that the unit cooks (and then switches to warm) but not the start time.
I'm very happy with mine. Great size for a single person, and works great too.
Customer Review: Sent it back Summary: 1 Stars
I chose this crockpot because it looked cool, was a smaller size, and was programmable. The first time I used it, the lid rattled ALOT and water spurted out the side. So, when I am home, it will drive me nuts with the rattling, and when I'm not home, it will make a nice pool of water all over my counter. No thanks. I sent it back. Unfortunately, it seems most crockpots these days are made this way, with a glass lid that just sits on top and allows for these things to happen.
My dinner did turn out good though, so if you don't care about these problems, it might be an OK choice.
