Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware SetCustomer Review: Love These! Summary: 5 Stars
I searched high and low looking at all different types of supposed upscale/professional cookware.
This is what I decided on. I have coveted a set of All Clad for years but couldn't justify the cost (I didn't really like the calphalon). This set seems to have all the quality both in cooking and construction for a great price. Interesting story about the first time I boiled water in the big stock pot. It seemed to be taking too long (longer than in my old not so nice set), I had seen it start to slightly boil where there were just a couple of tiny steam bubbles that didn't make it to the top but it never did anything more. I finally got impatient knowing that the water had been on the heat plenty long to be boiling and just dumped the pasta in that I was trying to cook. As soon as the past hit the water it immediately started a rolling boil (actually it was more than that but not enough that it was coming out of the pan or anything). I realized (and the point of the story) that I had super heated the water. This can commonly happen in a microwave where the water is evenly heated and there is no point heat source to initiate the boiling process. It is very hard for this to happen on a stove top where heat is applied to only the bottom of the pan. I consider this a merit of how well heat distributes through the pan that this could even happen! Next time I will just drop a small piece of pasta in to help initiate the boiling process and know when the water is hot.
Customer Review: new to stainless cookware Summary: 4 Stars
I was both excited yet nervous about getting this new cookware set. I had cooked on non-stick cookware every since I had learned to cook. I had also read the comments and manuals about not cooking on high with this cookware. I was afraid of damaging my new cookware or my smooth-top stove.
This cookware is very pretty, but it does scratch when stacked. Do not expect it to look like new when you wash it with regular dish soap in the sink. (I do not use a dishwasher.) You will need a cleaner such as "Bar Keepers Friend" to get it to look clean after cooking--even if you put the cookware in the dishwater immediately after removing the cooked food from it.
Everything I read said not to cook on high temperatures on the stove or you would cause damage to your stove or cookware. I tried using lower temperatures on the stove when I first tried out my new cookware. However, the food didn't get hot enough. Since I use a smooth-top stove, the heat under the surface goes on and off to maintain a proper temperature. I have been cooking on high on the burners without any problems, but I have not cooked anything that has to cook or simmer for lengthy periods of time either.
I like this cookware, but it is more trouble to clean than non-stick cookware. However, it is a healthier way to cook. I no longer have to worry about the non-stick coating coming off of my cookware and being consumed with the food that I have prepared for my family.
Customer Review: Love these pans! Summary: 5 Stars
These pans are beautiful, cook evenly and clean up easily. After reading previous feedback I knew to read/follow directions for using so have not had any issues. I have had sticking problems with just two items; fried fish and eggs...both stuck badly. I did preheat the pans and used enough oil so I may just have to use my nonstick frypan for some things. I gave up on nonstick for my main cookware because I'm tired of replacing it every few years. This set will last my whole life with proper care and I'll just keep a single nonstick frypan for those items that don't do well with the stainless. One good thing....even when my fish/eggs stuck to the pan, I soaked the pan with warm water and a little dishsoap per instructions. When I did the dishes after dinner all of the food just rinsed out with no scrubbing. So they definitely clean up easily and I do use Barkeeper's Friend to keep them looking brand new. Overall, and after much experience with all kinds of cookware in the past (Revere and Farberware in the old days, high-end nonstick in recent years) I would highly recommend these for your primary cookware. You will have an excellent set of cookware comparable to very high-end products at a reasonable price that you will never have to replace if you take care of them. Then buy a single nonstick 12" frypan to use on occasion when its needed and you're good to go. These pans will give you the biggest bang for the buck!
Customer Review: Cuisinart A+, Amazon C-. Summary: 5 Stars
I did a lot of research before deciding to buy the Cuisinart Multiclad Pro set. Even after all the favorable reviews I read about the cookware, I still wasn't prepared for the outstanding quality of the utensils when I first unpacked them! The quality construction is apparent in the appearance and the heft of each item. What I especially appreciate are the handles. They are comfortable and large enough for a man's hand but not so large that when using a towel or pot holder that they become unwieldy. I enjoy using them and know they will last a long time.
What frustrated me about this transaction however, is that immediately after I ordered the set, Amazon dropped the price by about $15.00. Before the package arrived, I emailed Amazon to inquire about receiving the new lower price. I received the somewhat patronizing response: " I'm sure it's disappointing to see the lower price on the Cuisinart Multiclad Pro Stainless-Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set you recently purchased. Our prices regularly change, and the price you paid when your order shipped on January 24 was the lowest price we were able to offer at the time." At amny of the store I frequent, if the price should drop within a week of your purchase, they will honor the lower price by providing a refund or a credit. Not so with Amazon.
Again, I love the cookware, I just wish I had gotten the lower price to make the deal that much sweeter!
Customer Review: Amazing set, but if you haven't used stainless steel before, please READ THIS! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great set, by far the best I have ever owned or used. But if you are coming from a non-stick world, or have never used stainless steel before, you may be a little frustrated at first getting used to how these cook. These pans do NOT cook at all like non-stick pans, and they really don't cook that much like cast iron either. They are their own beast, but it is very possible to tame them and really enjoy cooking with them.
The best advice I can possibly give to anyone buying this set is: Go to rouxbe.com and watch the 8 part series on pan frying with stainless steel. It will take you about 30 minutes, and will give you such an incredible head start on using these pans that you'll want to stop in the middle of the video and start trying them out immediately.
The direct link is: [...] (see below in the comments...Amazon won't let me put a link in the review itself)
After you watch this, if you learn how to control the heat and how to heat up the pans and the oil, I guarantee you will enjoy cooking with these pans. I am even able to do eggs in them if I work carefully and pay attention...I use a little hot liquid bacon grease instead of oil, and when I'm done they just SLIDE right out of the pan without a spatula! The only con to this set is that the 10" skillet is a little small. I would suggest buying this set, but adding in the 12" skillet as well.
