Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware SetCustomer Review: Good stuff Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased this from Amazon for $189 in mid-November. However, be advised that Amazon appears to fluctuate between $265 and $189 for the Cuisinart Multiclad Pro Stainless Steel 12-piece cookware set, so enter "Cuisinart MCP-12" into the Amazon search engine and you may be able to get the less expensive price (as I did from my home computer but not work computer). Got free SuperShipping and the set arrived in pristine condition within 7 days (plus use the coupon for a free knife). The MCP-12 set is WELL WORTH the money, and not to be confused with the less expensive (and inferior) Cuisinart Chefs Classic cookware set. The bottom of the Pro-Clad pans is seamless (not like the Chefs set) and the stainless wraps around the lip, they are heavier, multiply construction, and the handles are much more sturdier than the Chef's Classic set--in short, well worth the extra dollars. Like with all stainless seal, be careful of using metal utensils. They clean up just fine if you soak them. Once again, I researched all of the cookware sets, and this is the best bang for the buck IMO.
This is a follow-up, August 15. I am still extremely happy with this cookware set. What I am NOT happy with is that I completed and mailed all paperwork for the Santoku Knife Offer (Rebate #C1534A) requested--free Cuisinart 6" Santoku Knife with Paramount Handle (advertised as FREE with purchase of $99.95 or more of Cuisinart Cookware from Amazon.Com)and after 3.5 months when I did not receive it, I wrote again (March 5, 2008), and again submitted the paperwork (copies this time) and still never received the knife. This kind of scam is an irritation, especially since Amazon has used reputable promotional rebate offers in the past.
Customer Review: Awesome Set Summary: 5 Stars
I have never had a stainless cookware set. I was tired of the hard anodized sets because they didn't clean well on the out side and after awhile started losing the stick free finish on the inside. I was a little concerned about purchasing the stainless as I heard about sticking problems and how hard they were to clean. Well, not this set! I read all the reviews I could find on stainless cookware and everyone kept saying All Clad if you want to pay the big bucks, Cuisinart for a set just as good at less than half the price of the All Clad. I have had this set for a few months now and I love it! So easy to clean and it still looks new. I have cooked stews, beans, fried foods, sautéed, fried eggs, etc and they all came out wonderful. The trick is spray a little Pam in the pans and let them heat up just a little before putting the food in. Once the pan has reached the right temp you can turn down the burner - it retains the heat evenly over the bottom of the pan. If after washing they have the rainbow effect in the pans I just use a little Bar Keepers Friend Cookware Cleanser & Polish (which you can buy on Amazon) and it removes the rainbow and shines beautifully. The lids are not glass! This was a plus for me because I hated the heaviness of glass lids. The lids fit perfect and if I need to check how it's cooking I just lift the lid. The handles - wow what can I say...they don't get hot and they fit perfectly in your hand. If you want a great stainless cookware set, one that you will "love", this is the set for you. I have even purchased the extra pieces to go with my set. I am extremely happy with this cookware and my only regret is that I didn't purchase it sooner!!!
Customer Review: Very nice set!! Summary: 4 Stars
My inability to cook should not defer my opinion in this review. Why you ask?? Well these are definitely top notch in looks, and design but I had to learn to cook all over again. The temperature you set your stove at with anything will change for sure leading to the first few big mistakes you'll make while cooking. I burnt omelets, chicken breast, rice, you name it!! Cleanup was seemingly an all day affair so I nearly gave up on this stuff. My resort was to call in the expert,,,, "MOM"!! She took 1 look at this set and said if I had this when you were growing up I would of never left the kitchen. We invited over the rest of the family and mom made a huge dinner for us using this new cookware. Everything came out perfect with very simple tips... 1.)If you cook anything reduce heat by 1/4+ of usual setting because these heat and hold heat very very well. 2.)Double the amount of Pam,butter, oil, etc that you usually use with nonstick. 3.)Cook time will be reduced so watch your food closely the first time you cook a certain dish. 4.)Rinse or soak the pan immediately after it's cooled down. Now that I follow these steps I have no mishaps, cleaning is a breeze, food cooks faster, and I could go on and on!! As for design and toughness you can't beat it with $1000 sets. You may match it but not beat it. Final thoughts,,,,if your a cook then these are for you,,,,if you think these will make you a cook think again,,,,if your not a cook willing to make a few mistakes and learn from them to make you a better cook this is definitely a set for life. I love this cookware now!! Hope this helps.
Customer Review: I had hoped for so much more. Summary: 2 Stars
I've read every single review on Amazon trying to figure out why my cookware set just isn't as amazing as everyone says it is.
I have a glass top stove and from the first day I started using this set, I laid out the law to my husband.
1) Do not put the stove above Heat Setting 4.
2) Do not use metal in the set. It can leave scratches.
3) Wait until the last minute to put butter, oil, or Pam in the skillet. Wait till it covers the pan then put the food in.
4) Do not put the stove about Heat Setting 4 (I had to repeat that one).
5) When food is done, take it out and fill the skillet with warm soapy water to sit in until after dinner when it's time to hand clean.
I understood the rules. I've been rewarded with hours spent cleaning these pans and one month later, they lack the "new pan set" everyone else still seems to have after using Bar Keepers Friend. If anything, BKF has given me a few scratches on these pans. It takes so so long to boil water and it seems like I just can't get a good sear on my meat (even if it's been heating on medium for 10 minutes). Also, if I'm sauteeing a small batch of peppers and onions in a tablespoon of EVOO, within 5 minutes things are sticking to the pan.
I don't know what the heck I'm doing wrong, but to have so many instructions and to still have food stick and have the set be so so hard to clean up, I just don't know it's worth it.
And seriously - if anyone can chime in here and tell me what I can do to fix my issues, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Customer Review: MCP-12 is the best cookware I've ever used! Summary: 5 Stars
This is actually more of my initial impressions, as I just received the pans yesterday. First of all I want to say thank you to everyone who took the time to write such in depth reviews, which is what convinced me to spend the extra money over the T-Fal Performance cookware!
I've been using s/s for years now, it was a Wolfgang Puck set from Sam's, but my roommate had the audacity to take HER pans with her when she moved :p So, I needed to get something and already knew that they would be s/s. This c/w is significantly heavier than the WP set, and after cooking with it just a couple times I can tell just how great a difference the aluminum wrapping up the sides as opposed to just being in the base, like the WP and T-Fal. Also, I believe the overall construction is of higher quality as well and I already like the the flat s/s lids better than the glass, we had to keep the WP glass lids in a cardboard box, there was no good way to store them if you wanted to hang or stack your pans, but the MCP lids store easily in a plate rack.
The pans heated up VERY quickly and evenly, I added a little butter and cooked 3 eggs(over easy) in a couple mins. Plus, I just slide the eggs out when I was done, added a little water and heated back up and the few stuck pieces came out with a pan brush easily. Also, I pan fried some tilapia and used the saute pan to do some spinach with butter and garlic and both turned out beautifully. I'll come back in a few months and update, though it's looking very good so far, I expect to have these pans for the rest of my life.
