Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart GR-1 Griddler Panini and Sandwich PressCustomer Review: Great Panini Press! Summary: 5 Stars
After becoming a bit addicted to Panera Bread's Turkey paninis, I decided it would be better for our budget to buy our own panini press and make our own paninis! Wow am I glad we did! We have a big family and we have a large griddle, so we don't need a panini press that multi-tasks. We just want a basic panini press that makes great panini sandwiches. This press is it! You plug it in, wait for the light to turn green and you are ready to make your own incredible paninis. I like that the temperature is pre-set, so my family and I can't accidently mess that up. Our oldest daughter even takes a panini, slightly cooled and wrapped in foil, to school for lunch. They aren't hot but are still warm and she loves them. You just can't go wrong with this press. It's basic and does what it's meant to do-make a great panini!
Customer Review: Great griddler for 2! Summary: 5 Stars
We've had this griddler for 3 months, and it is so easy to clean and store that we use it more than I would have thought. We have made sweet breakfast bagels, savoury grilled sandwiches, quesadillas, etc. The grill seemed very small at first, but it is the perfect size for a couple. I was concerned about the lack of temperature dial but haven't missed it once, the griddler gets hot in a few minutes and cooks very evenly. It produces perfectly grilled paninis in 3-5 minutes. I bought this product online without seeing it, and the build quality is much better than any model I have seen in stores. The griddler comes with a plastic scraper to remove baked-on cheese, but so far a damp cloth has been sufficient to clean it. Its stainless top is also very easy to clean, there again a damp cloth usually does the trick.
Customer Review: Instant hit Summary: 5 Stars
I love my panini press, it's that simple. I've watched so many cooking shows with paninis (seems they're the latest thing) and this press did not disappoint. It's quick and VERY simple to use. Plug it in, wait a few minutes, stick your sandwich in and go.
I had two small issues with it - first, and this sounds stupid, it gets incredibly hot. I have two small children and am sometimes distracted, and when I'd reach to open it I'd burn my hand. They do provide a small portion of the handle to hold, but it's just big enough.
Also, with sticky cheese it can be a bit hard to clean. It comes with a scraper, but this isn't always enough. It would be nice to be able to disconnect the pans and throw them in the dishwasher, as I have seen with more expensive presses.
Overall, great press for the money.
Customer Review: Panini and Sandwich maker Summary: 4 Stars
This is a good product and does exactly what it claims. I like it because the "plates" are adjustable, thereby allowing any thickness of sandwich/panini to be made. The only things I don't like are that the plates don't come off for easier cleaning, and that there is no on/off switch - the device is on when plugged in, and must be unplugged to turn it off. However, I knew the plates were not removable when I ordered this, so I'm not disappointed - I chose the ability to cook various thicknesses of sandwiches over removable plates. Just something good to consider when buying this. You can spray the plates with a non-stick spray and it works fine - no sticking or burning of the sandwiches. This is great if you are being health conscious and don't want to use a lot of butter, etc.
Customer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
This product is just as good as it sounds. Makes perfect panini and FAST. Also great for making quesadillas.
Goodbye $7 paninis at Panera!! Get yourself some good Italian bread and have at it - it comes with a great little recipe book.
Cleanup is a snap, too, since the plates are non-stick. They are NOT removable, though, so if you want one with plates you can put in the dishwasher, this isn't it.
I haven't had it for that long, but the hinges seem pretty sturdy and overall the materials quality seems high. This is a major improvement over a press I had in the past, which had such cheap hinges that it fell apart (literally) after four uses, so this is something I look for specifically.
Love it!
