Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart GR-1 Griddler Panini and Sandwich Press

Customer Review: Ignore the cost and go for it!
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading the reviews of similar products and this one and knowing that I'm always disappointed when I go for the cheap stuff, I bought this one. I am SO glad I did. My son has been a big fan of grilled cheese sandwiches for 5 years now and it's not slowing down. I hate getting out the frying pan (and the butter) and making them the old-fashioned way. With the Cuisinart, I don't have to use butter. The taste is still great! My son gives it a thumbs up. Plus in less time than it takes me to make one the old-fashioned way I can make two. And my son can use it too. It's so easy, just put the cheese in the bread, wait for the green light, put the sandwich on the griddler and watch it do all the work. I've experimented with other kinds of sandwiches and they all turn out perfectly. I even use it to do quesadillas and heat up fish sticks. It works and makes them crunchy. Plus it doesn't heat up the whole house like the oven does.

Customer Review: good for sandwiches

This smaller version of the full-size griddler is fine for grilled sandwiches and works for toast, but that is about the scope of it. Now, for me that's fine because that's exactly what I bought it for, but I found myself wishing that I would have gotten the mac/daddy which has a lot more capability... such as grilled chicken breasts, bacon, etc. I think I will ask for one for Christmas and give this one to one of my kids. Valuewise- Cuisinart is peerless, but I saw my daughter grill a sandwich in her VERY inexpensive GF grill the other night. It came out perfectly and I was a little peeved... since her GF also does those other things I described.
I do like the look and size of the appliance. Easy to clean. I leave it out on the counter most days.
I don't like the fact that it squashes the bread to almost cracker width- mine does that, yours could be different depending on the type of bread you use.

Customer Review: I like this product!

I bought this rather than something that I saw advertised on TV because of the poor rating the item received. After looking for a similar item, I found the Cuisinart Griddler. I was disappointed when I found that it did not do what I thought it would, then I used it. I love it. I have made sandwiches, toasted frozen bread that I buy at the health food store, grilled veggie burgers, sausage links - I have not put this away because it has made things so simple and low fat (except for the sausages) and tasty. It is very easy to wipe clean, so I don't mind using it daily. I plan to grill some veggies next. I think that a quick and light brush of olive oil will do the trick. I forgot to mention that the heat up time is great, I think. While I get my morning coffee the griddler heats up, and the items I put in seem to be ready in about 5 to 6 minutes.

Customer Review: Good Sized, Works Fast
Summary: 4 Stars

This panini press has two distinct advantages over larger and more expensive models--namely, it is smaller and less expensive! As panini are usually made one at a time anyway, getting a multi-sandwich sized machine is just a waste of counter and storage space. This press has room for two sandwiches if you want to cook more than one at a time, but it is compact and easy to put away. It heats up quickly, and works like a waffle iron--one light says ready to go, the other says wait a minute. Pretty simple.

The floating handle provides even pressure on sandwiches, which come out warm and deliciously crunchy. One warning for households with small kids--the whole unit (except for the handle) gets pretty hot.

This is a satisfactory low cost panini maker that is perfect for singles, couples, or even small families.

Customer Review: I love this little guy!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm making way more sandwiches than ever before, but I'm skipping mayo and other condiments--they just aren't needed. So technically, I'm eating healthier, right? This little machine is fantastic for building huge sandwiches and then pressing them down evenly to a manageable size. It couldn't be easier to use, and makes neat lines across the bread. I recently started grilling sandwiches in flour wraps: Fantastic. Quesadillas are yummy too, and cook up even faster. This machine is inexpensive and will quickly become your best friend.
My Mom's favorite sandwich:
*Rosemary-Olive Oil Bread
*Roasted or Smoked Turkey
*1 slice mozarrela
*1 slice VT sharp cheddar
*carmelized onions and/or roasted red peppers
*tomato slices
*basil
Mine is easier--cheddar, bacon bits, tomato. Yum!!!
