Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart GR-1 Griddler Panini and Sandwich Press

Customer Review: Easy, healthy sandwiches are a snap!
Summary: 5 Stars

On the recommendation of other reviewers, I spent more to get the Cuisinart GR-1 Griddler. I feel it is worth every penny. It is so easy to use and clean, and makes wonderful paninis quickly. When my picky-eater son needs lunch during the summer, it's easy to fall into the hot dog/macaroni and cheese/soup rut. With the Cuisinart Griddler, I can quickly make something healthy and appealing to him, such as a Canadian bacon and havarti cheese on sourdough panini. We love it and use it several times a week. Don't buy the cheaper models--you will be very happy with the Cuisinart Griddler.

This was a Christmas gift from me to my husband. We both find that it is very easy to operate. My husband, the main panini press operator, usually makes anywhere from 3 to 5 paninis in one session, but has not put more than one sandwich on at a time so far. Cleaning it is a breeze, as long as you don't get to crazy with cheese or other sticky ingredients. We eat paninis at least once a week now and have great fun thinking up new creations. It is a very nice size not taking up much space and looks handsome on the counter, so I don't care if it doesn't get put away immediately after use.

Customer Review: Great Panini Maker!

Folks,

This is a great product for the price. Does exactly what it needs to do. Heat and toasting of bread is just right. Melts cheese in about 3 minutes. Our first sandwiches were Reuben's with rye bread, cheese, thousand island, first cut corned beef and sauerkraut. Outstanding is the only way I can describe it. If you like panini's and are on a restricted budget, this is the machine for you - nothing fancy, just everything you need. Did I mention it's a piece of cake to clean? A wipe with a wet handiwipe and it's like new. You can't go wrong with this baby.

Customer Review: Pros and Cons
Summary: 3 Stars

We've had this panini press over 6 months now. It has performed well and the kids love it. However, I have two pet peeves:

1) There is no on/off switch. Inconvenient. With any appliance that heats up, this could be a safety issue. Also, since ours gets a lot of use, the constant plugging/unplugging has resulted in a loose switchplate in our tiled counter backsplash.

2) It's difficult to clean thoroughly. You can wipe it off after each use, but after a while there IS going to be a buildup of charred grease, crumbs, whatever. Not very healthy.

Customer Review: Griddling
Summary: 4 Stars

Of the smaller panini presses this is a good one. Though I would like a more substantial material than plastic for the forward arm, once you get used to using a level of pressure that doesn't unseat the press, it works reasonably well. The lip around the lower plate does hamper cleaning a bit but it does keep any liquids from making it out onto your counter. Cleaning would be easier if the upper and lower plates were removable but on balance it's pretty easy. On the whole, the Griddler is a good deal for the price. It warms fast, cooks fast and is just the right size.
