Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart DLC-2BK Mini Prep Plus Food Processor, Black

Customer Review: Excellent appliance for small quantities
Summary: 5 Stars

Here are some of the things that I have used this for: dressings for salads; fresh breadcrumbs; dry breadcrumbs; chopping nuts; chopping fresh or dried herbs; grinding spices; pureeing fruit; chopping olives for tapanade; chopping garlic; making gravy and sauces -- the list goes on.

This chopper has replaced my mortar and pestle, and sometimes replaces my knife if I'm feeling lazy. Holds about a cup or so of dry or wet ingredients. Has holes in lid to add oil to vinaigrette.

I bought this in 2001 and it is surviving frequent use. Bowl and knife are dishwasher proof. Body wipes clean easily. Has a useful cord storage in the bottom of the body.

I'm not too sure the difference between "grind" and "chop" but I have used both functions with success. One is clockwise the other is counterclockwise, so this is useful for clearing jammed pieces of food or whatever. Alternating chop and grind can help make uniform food.

Customer Review: Use it all time, dropped it twice
Summary: 3 Stars

I love this mini processor for pesto and mincing onions & garlic. I've had it for more than a year and over that time, I've dropped the plastic bowl/cup twice. The plastic bit on the handle popped off and there's a crack in the side now. Maybe I'm just clumsy, maybe the plastic isn't all that strong, I don't know. The blade is still sharp, the motor is still strong, it's the plastic bowl that broke after a couple drops.

We know that accidents happen in the kitchen. Can I blame the thing for breaking when I was the one who dropped it? ... Yes. When I replace this mini processor (yes, I'm still using it even though it's fubar), I won't be buying Cuisinart again.

Customer Review: Perfect for Baby food
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this processor for the sole purpose of making homemade baby food and I am not disappointed. This processor is wonderful. It only has 2 settings, chop and grind. I use grind generally, but hit the chop button now and then to stir what I'm grinding and get any thicker pieces that may have just been swirled around (I haven't seen this happen, but just in case!). I also have a mini-chopper for onions, garlic, etc and I'm thinking about tossing it and just using this one. And clean-up is a breeze. Rinse or not and pop it in the dishwasher! This is perfect if you want to make baby food or puree anything to a super-smooth consistancy.

Customer Review: Makes great purees and smoothies
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a good little machine, but it does not "chop" very well. Most everything ends up too small and it even separates the juices from things like onions! The best bet is to TAP (don't even hold it for a second) the chop button repeatedly. And even then it doesn't chop very evenly.
But, this machine does make great purees, for say a creamy soup. And I've found it makes smoothies better than my blender, but it will not chop ice, so it doesn't do frozen drinks real well.
Overall, I like it.

Customer Review: Best $20 i've ever spent
Summary: 5 Stars

i bought this several years ago, when i planted some basil, with the intention of using it specifically for pesto. Since then, i've gone through 3 basil plants (and delicious pesto), had a baby (made baby food), and now use this machine regularly to chop nuts, garlic, onions, puree tomatoes... this machine is fab! Its simple construction, easy to use and clean, and very hard wearing. I've been impressed.
