Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart DLC-2AW Mini-Prep Plus Food Processor, White

Customer Review: Not Oskar...
Summary: 4 Stars

This unit was ordered to replace our Oskar Junior that had finally given out after almost 30 years of faithful service : o We looked for a new Oskar, but sadly realized that they just don't make them anymore - maybe because people only had to buy one every 20 years or so ; }

The Cuisinart is similar in size and style to the Jr. but has racked up a few negatives in it's short life at our house. The motor is not as strong, and labors a bit, even when performing light tasks such as blending shelled nuts or cereals. Also, the design of the bowl and the blade is kind of odd in that you have to lock the bowl into place on the motor before you can put the blade in. After chopping, you can either remove the blade with the ingredients inside the bowl, and risk the ingredient(s) spilling down through the tube where the blade assembly rests, or you can remove the bowl with the blade still inside, holding it in place while tipping the bowl to empty the ingredients out : / Finally, the plastic that the bowl is made of is very easily marred and in fact, looks older now than our 30 year old unit looked when it gave out!

It is a small, handy sized unit though, that pretty much does what we ask of it, so long as we are mindful of its limitations and how it likes things done ; )

Customer Review: helping hand
Summary: 5 Stars

A friend wanted to buy one of those big jars of organic garlic cloves(already peeled), and offered to share them with me. We agreed that we could chop them and cover them with good quality organic olive oil; then we'd have chopped garlic handy for any recipe.

I imagined how long it would take. Then I remembered I'd just purchased this little gem, and agreed to take half of the garlic.

I still imagined the task taking an hour or so, but after chopping the first batch (about 1/3 of the amount she gave me), I realized this was going to be a ten minute job at most. I'm new to food processing, if you can believe that.

Needless to say, I use a lot more garlic now than I would if I had to peel and chop it by hand.

I also made olive oil mayonnaise, which turned out fantastic!
I chose this model because of the little holes in the top, through which you can drizzle oil while the blades are running. It took a bit of research to find one with that feature, but that was the clincher for me, as well as the positive reviews comparing models (on Amazon of course).

Customer Review: Loves it!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is such a great food processor and in the month or so that i have owned it, I have gotten a lot of use out of it.
Tests I have put it through:
Pesto - makes great creamy pesto every time
Salsa - Blends everything well, but make sure you blend things of different consistencies separately, ex. if you put in tomatoes and peppers at the same time the tomatoes will turn to mush while the peppers will be nice and chunky.
Guacamole - very smooth and creamy, wonderful!
Bread crumbs - I was able to get them to the consistency of brown sugar, very small, uniformly blended, and perfect for meatloaf & meatballs.

Some things like cheeses stick to the blades and aren't good for this machine.
And the the only con I can think of is that its pretty noisy.

I love the mini prep and would definitely recommend it to anyone!

Customer Review: Mini Processor
Summary: 3 Stars

Thinking Cuisinart produces a quality product, I purchased the Mini Prep Plus Food Processor. Firstly, I ordered the chrome finish and received the white. Knowing it wouldn't sit out on my counter, I decided to keep the white, rather than return it. In the winter I make a lot of soups. Thinking this chopper would be great for chopping celery, onions and carrots,I was excited not to have all that chopping to do. The chopper doesn't chop - it shreds the vegetables. They are too small for soup or salad. The chopper is great for making quacamole. But that is about it. The bowl capacity is WAY to small to chop more than a stalk of celery at a time. I'm not really even sure what else to use this little chopper for. Wouldn't recommend it. Unless it's for guacamole or baby food, buy a bigger chopper.

Customer Review: I have had my mini prep for almost 5 years now!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this mini prep I have had it for at least 5 years. I have made tons of things with it! I made fresh cranberry sauce with it the other day, I have made nut butters, salsa, minced garlic, minced ginger, salad dressings, fresh minced herbs, blended trail mix and made power bars, squash for soup........the list goes on. Just remember it is little so items like onions and carrots have to be cut up a bit so they fit. I would not recommend blending liquids in it unless it is a small amount, less than a cup or so, if you do you will have a mess to clean up. I have a very small kitchen so the storage and easy to bring with me when the family gets together. I really try to use the pulse technique so not to burn out the motor; if it ever breaks I'll get another one.
