Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart DLC-2ABC Mini-Prep Plus Food Processor, Brushed Chrome

Customer Review: Great Mini-processor
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned large food processors (6 cups+), and never used them. They came with lots of parts, lots of things to wash, and never seemed to do a great job of anything. This handy, easy to use, easy to wash (has only 3 parts), has been great. It easily chops hard nuts and spices as well as makes great pesto, salsa, etc.
Its small enough for my tiny kitchen, and I leave it out all the time. I have only owned it for a few months, so cannot say anything about durability. However, I own a Cuisinart blender and pannini press, and when I had a problem with each (after 1 year of owning them), I contacted Cuisinart, gave them my serial numbers, and they shipped replacement parts (and in one case, a whole new grill) with no questions asked, for FREE!!! I have been so happy with their customer service that I continue to buy Cuisinart products.

Customer Review: Cannot grind peanuts
Summary: 1 Stars

We make a lot of Asian food. For some salads, we use peanut and dried shrimp powder. I purchased this Chrome processor for grinding powder. When I put dried shrimps, this machine did not grind or even make small chanks. I removed shrimps and put peanuts but did not grind either, instead just crushed large chanks. I just wanted to grind the way I used my old Braun coffee grinder. Then, I started smell smokes. It seemed burning. I put this back in Amazon's box and returned the next day.

If you intend to use this as a grinder, this is not for you. Besides, Chrome means just chrome color, this machine is just a cheap plastic. Light weight of course, but not durable. I will keep using my old Braun coffee grinder for grinding dried shrimps, peanuts, red pepper, black pepper, etc., (except coffee ;-) though it's quite small.

Customer Review: Okay, Until it Overheated
Summary: 1 Stars

Cuisinart DLC-2ABC Mini Prep Plus Food Processor, Brushed Chrome This mini-processor performed well for some things (pesto, silken tofu), except that it is very light-weight plastic and must be firmly gripped and held down while it processes. Also, it has no overheat-thermostat switch to shut off automatically before the motor burns up. I had processed some almonds, then was batch-processing some dates that were dry and pre-cut into bits. I was pulsing as is recommended, when I felt the processor getting very warm. I shut it off and let it completely cool. When I tried to process again, the motor was dead. It was only a couple of months old and the eleventh time I used it. Obviously a disappointment.

Customer Review: Works like a charm ... (But I bought it only a month back)
Summary: 4 Stars

I got this food processor a month back in a pretty good deal (It was my first purchase with the Amazon credit card, so I had to pay only $9.99 for the thing). The motor is pretty powerful compared to its peers and it shows in the performance as well. The knife edges demand to be handled with extreme caution as they are REALLY sharp.
I have mostly used it to make onion-tomato paste (for Indian cooking) and that hardly takes 10-15 seconds.
Chopping chicken pieces was also remarkable fast and even. I am yet to use the grind feature so I shall have an update on that later.
The best thing about this is that its dishwasher safe which is the real time saver.
On the downside, the power cord is pretty small and the jar doesn't seem to be very strong (I may be wrong though ...)

Customer Review: Exactly as advertised
Summary: 4 Stars

I have never owned a small chopper but wanted one for things really too small for my large food processor. So far this fits the bill exactly. I've used it for salsa, sauces, nuts, breadcrumbs so far and I've been very pleased. It goes together well, comes apart well and cleans ups easily. Most of the time I put it in the dishwasher but occassionally if I'm using it for more than one thing during prep, I'll hand wash. No silly crevices that I can't get clean or dry by hand.

It has plenty of power to do what I need. "Chop" spins the blade in one direction and "Grind" in another allowing a thorough chop of whatever I've put in it so far. Works well for dry as well as wet ingredients.

I'm very please so far. Let's see how long it lasts!
