Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart DLC-2ABC Mini-Prep Plus Food Processor, Brushed ChromeCustomer Review: Cuisinart Food Processor gets the job done Summary: 4 Stars
I never really though about using food processors for a long time although they seem to be a staple in the cooking world. I always found that chopping and blenders would be sufficient. Granted, this is probably because I did not make a lot of pastes and or salsas before.
I like this model because it it small so it is easy to store and easy to maneuver around the kitchen, which because I cannot carry particularly heavy things makes it a great little product to have around. The size is also great because counter-space is at a premium, and during prep-time this does not take up much of the precious counter-space.
It does take a bit of thinking to assemble the first couple of times you use it since it has a double locking system in order to make sure that you don't slice your fingers off. You also cannot tax is much since after a few minutes of use it starts to have a slight burning smell. It works, and the price is not bad though.
Customer Review: Excellent tool for your kitchen! Summary: 5 Stars
We got this to replace a mini-processor that was lost in a move. We still had our
big food processor, but sometimes, you just don't need to haul it all out!
This one works like a dream. It is relatively quiet in operation (sounds like an electric shaver
from another room), and does a very nice job! The blades reverse, making it much less likely
to have food get caught. It also doesn't totally pulverize things, so you can chip finely without
making food paste.
The look is great - we got the chrome model and it looks very nice.
It was easy to clean too.
We found a little plastic scraper tucked down inside the box.
It almost got thrown away, so be sure to look carefully before discarding the packaging.
Ours was white. While it might or might not come in handy, it was nice to have it
included.
My chef-to-be hubby is very happy with this purchase....
Customer Review: Not impressed. Summary: 2 Stars
I use this about twice a month to grind homecooked dog food. I don't think I'm too rough on it - I chop the meat into small chunks and never overfill it. I frequently encounter two problems:
1) It smells like hot electrical components. I never keep it continuously running - I pulse on/off until the food is sufficiently chopped. Nonetheless, it smells like I've overworked it. It hasn't stopped working yet, but it sure smells like it will give out any day now!
2) Somehow, food gets up under the blade insert (I think this occurs when it shakes in the beginning like an unbalanced washing machine), and it is nearly impossible to clean it out of the long cylindrical piece of plastic. It seems like a bad design. I soak in hot soapy water and vinegar, but I can still see that there is a coating of dried food in there.
When this one breaks, I'll shop for a different brand.
Customer Review: Worth getting for garlic alone! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not big on fussy cooking techniques or complicated recipes, but I do like high quality fresh ingredients. After giving away my large food processor because I was always too lazy to use it, I went for decades just chopping by hand. I finally decided to spring for this little gadget just to see if it would encourage me to cook more creatively, and things are looking very promising. As others have mentioned, it is quite convenient to use, handle, and clean. I just made a dressing out of garlic, olive oil, vinegar, sun dried tomatoes, herbs, sugar, and a little lemon zest, and it came out so tasty I ate an enormous carrot just to have a dressing-delivery-vehicle. For added decadence I may add some grated cheese. It did an especially neat and tidy job of finely mincing the garlic, so that ingredient will be making a much more frequent appearance in my cooking -- now I need breath mints!!
Customer Review: Perfect for Two Summary: 5 Stars
I read through customer reviews of the top selling, small sized food processors, and this one seemed to be the best. It looks tiny, but handles exactly what we need (usually something like an onion, tomato, parsley, etc- holds approx. 3 cups), and anything bigger would be a pain to clean and store in our tiny kitchen. Our favorite features are the double-sided blade, the extended handle to pull out the blade, the "Grind" and "Chop" function instead of just one button, and the locking lid. There are two tiny airholes in the lid, but not big enough for anything to leak or spray out of. Just a quick button punch is all you need, and you're good to go; anything longer, like in any food processor or blender, and you could end up with mush.
After reading and comparing the other reviews and purchasing this mini processor, I don't think I could have made a better choice.
