Thank you to those who wrote and feel that the coffee filters are a waste of money if you already use filtered water. We had a red Cuisinart 12 cupper previously that did not have a filter. While I won't go into detail suffice to say that thru my negligence I ruined it. We just got a beautiful red replacement from Overstock.com for $60.00. The quest for a red one made the search a little more complicated. Since our coffee makers usually last longer than the carafes, and since the red color is important to us, we easily found what is now a spare carafe at Amazon.com. There must never be a coffeeless morning at our house and a broken carafe is not an acceptable reason for not having coffee!Customer Review: coffemaker works better without filter in place

I noticed my Cuisinart coffeemaker was working very slowly. It also would not brew a full pot of coffee even though I was filling the chamber full of water.
Then I inspected the whole unit and had an aha moment when I recalled this unit had the fancy filter. I had not remembered it was even there when I first set this up. It appeared clogged with coffee grounds - ugh - I removed the old filter, which was not that old, and then it worked fine, and brewed the whole pot ultra fast like on day 1. I think if your water is bad, you could spring for these filters, but if you are taking already - filtered water from the refridgerator, there is no need.

These work great. The coffee taste so much better vs unfiltered coffee, with my water anyway. I like the way Cuisinart designed their machines to filter the water before it goes through the machine rather than the way my old Hamilton Beach brew station would filter it after circulating through and just before pouring a cup. Make sure you search around for the best price and order it with something else you need to offset shipping costs. I bought these for $4.95 a pair and about $1.25 shipping when purchased with a replacement carafe from the same seller (Buy-it-Now-Store). Highly recommended!Customer Review: WOW! L. To me this is one of those items that either works or it does not. This filter works! If you own one of the recommended pots you are going to need a good filter and this is a good filter. Sure you can spend twice as much but if you plan to use and keep your Cuisinart then you could be well served if you were to buy several packs of these.I like to change my coffee filter about once every three months or at the same time that I change my house water filters. They do what they're supposed to do. I noticed our coffee was tasting different, even after cleaning the machine. Then I realized our filter had been in there since we bought the machine. Ordered a pair of new filters from Amazon and voila... better tasting coffee. They cost more than you'd expect for a tea bag full of... whatever is in there, but it works, and for the price of a latte at Starbucks, not to mention the time to get there and wait in line, it's more than worth it to have good coffee at home... BEFORE the kids wake up!
