Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart DCC-450BK 4-Cup Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Carafe, Black

Customer Review: good idea, poor design
Summary: 1 Stars

This little coffee maker should have been perfect for me, but the longer I used it the more maddening it became. The spout of the carafe is poorly designed, and it is impossible to pour a cup without the coffee dribbling and leaking all over the place. The lid of the water tank is also awkward, so filling it without spillage is also difficult. The spring-loaded drip-stop feature works most of the time, but not all the time, so don't remove the pot while still brewing, even though you're supposed to be able to do so.

The materials and assembly quality of this coffee maker are good, and it makes a decent cup of coffee, but it also makes a mess in the process. Making four cups of coffee shouldn't mean having to clean up a cup's worth of spilled or leaked coffee and water.

After hearing me complain about this thing, my mother gave me a Mr. Coffee TF5 4-cup coffee maker as a gift that is much, much better, and I'm very happy with it. This Quisinart went straight to the dumpster.

Customer Review: Good but not Great
Summary: 3 Stars

I selected this four cup coffee maker because of it's stainless steel carafe. I am enjoying using it but the lip on the carafe is so shallow that you must pour from it very slowly to avoid spilling. This is a problem because it takes a relatively long time to pour a cup of coffee or to set up the coffeemaker to make coffee. This might be great for a waitress trying to get a bigger tip but then a waitress wouldn't be using a four cup coffeemaker. But for someone trying to get a quick cup of coffee, it is a major inconvenience.
The product could also use a permanent filter. I went online and was able to find a permanent filter from Cuisinart for under $10. It can also use #2 paper filters. After getting the permanent filter I decided it was a hassle to clean it out after each use. So I decided it was better to use the disposable paper filters with the permanent filter. But the paper filters can be used with or without the permanent filter.

Customer Review: Nice Small Coffee Maker
Summary: 5 Stars

I just received this machine a few days ago and so far I am very pleased. I was worried because of some of the complaints from other reviewers. Regarding the carafe dripping when you pour - - this is not true. It pours just fine. The spout in indeed rather small, but it works. I suppose those other reviews might be in an big hurry for their coffee, so they pour way too fast??? The other common complaint is about the cover of the carafe not coming off easily. Well, I figured this out the same day I got it - you just have to push on the part of the cover that is over the handle of the carafe, and it comes right off - - no problem!! I like the auto shut-off, because I'm not a person that sits around and drinks a pot of coffee over several hours. I guess some people drink coffee all day - it's that's the case for you - then don't get this. Overall, it's an attractive machine, it brews fast and the price is right.

Customer Review: Stylish and Functional
Summary: 4 Stars

This Cuisinart small coffee maker is a compliment to your countertop and provides a delicious and flavorful cup of coffee every time. Very glad we decided to go ahead and purchase this item, and plan on giving this as a gift to my sister who also likes a smaller coffee maker and is meticulous about the appearance of her kitchen. The carafe is easy to keep clean and removes the concern about breakage. I have a few responses to other reviews. First, we adapted easily to how to pour water into the chamber without spillage and how to pour a cup of coffee without overflow. Second, the quality is as good as we expected and no problems using the "rocker" switch. Third, and last, no problem not being able to see through the carafe and determining when the coffee is ready -- just a matter of timing and although it is quiet during brewing, you can catch a few gurgles at the end to alert you that it's ready.

Customer Review: Best coffee maker!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this little coffee maker. Mine doesn't dribble whatsoever- not sure why others do.. after the coffee is made, the warming plate turns on and keeps it extra hot up to 30 minutes..I keep my lid on as I am pouring, and I pour a little slow but not too slow, with no mess at all.. I have had every coffee maker from a Bunn,Melitta,Cuisinart 12 cup, and a Starbucks, etc.. I loved the Starbucks coffee maker and I would say this is very comparable.. the coffee comes out hot and very full-flavored.. I don't like coffee like jet fuel, but I hate it weak..I use alot less coffee than I used to... this machine just balances it out with super results every time.. I got mine new at a thrift store, but the price here is cheap as well.. in other reviews they say it seems cheaply made- I don't think that at all- it is sturdy enough for a small coffeemaker..I am extremely pleased with mine. No regrets.
