Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart DCC-450BK 4-Cup Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Carafe, BlackCustomer Review: Perfect for My Office Desk Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this little machine to be used on my office desk. After a week of daily work day use, I have no major complaints. The only thing missing that would make it over the top is a thermal stainless carafe. I have not had any problems with leaking from around the top or poor, metallic taste which might be more attributable to one's water source. We have bottled water here, and I am quite devoted to my Starbuck's coffee. I had considered buying a permanent filter, but I find the paper ones much easier to simply toss for clean up, and they aren't that expensive. The 30 minute automatic off can be a blessing and a curse; it keeps me from forgetting to turn the machine off, but sometimes it turns itself off before I've finished the pot, but that's not a big deal as I just hit the switch to turn it on again to fire up the heat. A full pot makes at least 2 good mug servings for me, and that's really all I need in the morning. I am very pleased with this machine; I use an old 4 cup Mr. Coffee machine at home which works well, but I like the more straight up, compact design of this one for my desk top.
Customer Review: Affordably Priced Great Coffeemaker Summary: 5 Stars
After reading so many complaints and negative reviews about this product, I was skeptical but attracted to its features so decided to risk the purchase. Well, it's been almost 4 months since I've owned it and I use it daily to make only one or up-to-4 cups. I also use it to brew tea and prepare water for hot cereal. It's easy to use, sleek, stylish, lightweight and takes up very little space on my countertop. I haven't had any issues with pouring, filling or removing/securing the lid and I like the 30-minute auto-shut off feature. This machine makes great coffee hot and fast but unlike a glass container, the steel prevents me from SEEING what's inside the pot. However, I can tell when the coffee is ready when I no longer hear it steaming the water. Also, the inside of the steel carafe has become discolored from use. All-in-all, I LOVE this coffeemaker and highly recommend it. However, I also purchased the gold-toned permanent filter to use with it but found it too stains easily plus retains the smell of the coffee no matter how many times I've washed it so I went back to using the paper filters.
Customer Review: Perfect little coffee maker Summary: 5 Stars
After making several pots of coffee with this Cuisinart 4 cup...I can give it 5 stars... coffee is hot, brewer has a very small footprint, the brewer and the stainless steel pot do not leak, its an extremely quiet coffee maker. Perfect size for what I was looking for. I do not find it difficult to load water or coffee into this coffee maker. Love the 4 cup size...I can fill up my xlarge coffee mug twice and thats exactly what I drink every morning. The coffee does stay hot in the stainless steel pot (not a thermal pot, but it sits on a warming plate) and the coffeemaker shuts itself off after 30 minutes... very pleased with this purchase and as usual, Amazon shipped item quickly. I also have a Senseo coffee brewer sitting next to this brewer... the footprint of the Cuisinart is smaller than the Senseo brewer. I love the Senseo brewer also, but I miss having the ability to purchase different varieties of coffee flavors.. pods are expensive and there is a lack of variety in coffee pod flavors. They both make a great cup of coffee...the 4 cup Cuisanart brewer is more convenient.
Customer Review: Nice size but poor quality coffee Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this coffeemaker about a week ago. I was looking for a compact coffee maker since I'm the only coffee drinker at our home, and I also wanted it to be with stainless-steel carafe, and for a while it seemed to be an impossible mission. So I was really happy to find this coffee maker at such a reasonable price, and for the quality I guess I just trusted the name Cuisinart. I really like its size and design is not bad eather, and unlike other reviewers so far I did not have the dripping problem when pouring the coffee. But I think the most important thing for a coffee maker is to make a good coffee, and this one really makes some tasteless coffee, and also it's really not hot enough. I had to put my cup in the microwave for a few seconds to get the tempreture I wanted!!! Also I agree that the feature of Pause and Pour does not really work, the machines continues to drip coffee on the hot plate. I'm planning on taking the coffee machine back, but I really don't want to get the big machines they have. Does any one have a recommendation on a nice, quality compact coffee machine I could get?
Customer Review: Are you an Appliance Whisperer? Summary: 3 Stars
I've been using this for about a month now, and I think it has an equal amount of pros and cons.
Cons: I wish this had a simple flip-up lid on the carafe instead of this backwards placement thing. Placing the carafe in the machine can be a little frustrating, it seems to need a lot of pressure to fit under the spout. This is due to the design of the "pause and pour" feature, which, honestly I could do without if it's going to cause that much difficulty and isn't even recommended to do mid-brew according to the users manual. And it would be better if the heating element would stay on for an hour instead of 30 minutes.
Pros: Availability of a mesh cone filter is a bonus. The coffeemaker takes up very little counter space. It's great to have a carafe that I don't have to worry about shattering. The coffee tastes EXCELLENT, I gotta give it that. In the month I've used it, I've gotten used to its little quirks.
I recommend this machine if you're not easily frustrated by household items that need a special touch or just seem to have a mind of their own.
