Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart DCC-2200 Brew Central 14-Cup Coffeemaker

Customer Review: Poor design
Summary: 2 Stars

The water indicator is indeed difficult to read - but not as difficult to read as the lcd display, which is tiny and unlit - you need to get face to face with it.

The water resevoir has a relatively small and awkwardly shaped opening - care is required when filling to avoid spillage.

The control knob is impossible to turn if your hands are wet.

The filter ripped soon after I purchased it.

You have to take extra care to keep the internal plastic cone clean, or you will get grind overflow when you make the full 14 cups - this has happened to me twice - a mess.

Brewing is relatively slow.

The lid does not hinge, but can only be removed.

The auto-off system turns off way too soon for me and is not adjustable.

The unit is overpriced.

The coffee it makes is fine - I'm no expert, and the unit is attractive.

Customer Review: Water dumps everywhere!!! Ugh!!!
Summary: 1 Stars

We received this coffee maker as a wedding gift to match our stainless steel kitchen look. It was $140 on sale. Well, our previous coffee maker (Krups) was going on it's 10th straight year with no problems, so I waited until it finally died to open my "new in the box" Cuisinart coffee maker.

From the very first day it dumped water from the condensation above the coffee filter and water reservoir all over the counter top. It isn't a trickle, it's a pool of water.

I called Cuisinart about it and they said they couldn't do anything about it since the 3 year warranty had expired. I explained it was a wedding gift I had just opened and it was clearly a design flaw. Didn't matter to them! They were not willing to do anything about it. Terrible customer service.

I'm waiting for it to catch on fire like so many others have. Maybe they'll do something then.

Customer Review: Poor Water Level Indicator Design
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this coffee maker and had to return it before trying the coffee it makes.

This machine does not include an external indicator to show the water level (e.g. 8 cups, 10 cups, etc.) as you fill it. To see how much water to add, you need to be able to see over the top of the unit and down into the water reservoir where there are indications of water levels. Not a problem for me, but my wife (who is 5' 4") has no chance of being able to see the water levels in the interior reservoir when it is on our kitchen counter. (We do not put water in the coffee pot and pour it in because doing so usually results in spillage. Our coffee machine is close enough to the sink that we can extend the faucet handle to put water in the coffee maker directly.)

One last item - this unit does not include an adjustable coffee temp. control feature, like some lower-priced units Cuisinart.

Customer Review: Nice update of the 12-cup model.
Summary: 5 Stars

When my 5-year-old Cuisinart 12-cup Brew Central bit the dust last week, I was all set to order another to replace it. After twice-daily use, I figure we got between 3,000 to 3,500 pots of coffee out of this elegant workhorse and had no quarrel with it. But the 14-cup model, with its updated design features, turned out to be a better replacement - still able to make those 4-cup batches for just myself or a larger-volume pot, without sacrificing flavor. In fact, using the 1-4 cup selection on a larger batch results in near-espresso quality brew, and saves on coffee beans if you can be patient enough to await the slower drip. Since Amazon offered a $25 discount on $125 purchases, I also bought the new Cuisinart oval electric skillet, and got them both for a total of $174.90 with free delivery, within five days.

Customer Review: Great until it burned up
Summary: 1 Stars

I LOVED my new coffee maker. It does drip a bit when the carafe is removed during the brewing, but not a big deal. Today, though, at 10 months old, it caught on fire! Thankfully, my husband and I were sitting right there, at the table, enjoying a cup of coffee and heard an unfamiliar noise. The leftover coffee was boiling, the machine was OFF, and when the machine was tipped back, I could see FLAMES inside! Took it outside and used the hose on it, so no harm done, but what IF! We are replacing it with an exact model but have learned to UNPLUG small appliances if we're not going to be home!
UPDATE...Replaced with same model and guess what happened a year later? YEP, caught on fire AGAIN. Obviously, I'm not so stupid as to replace it with another Cuisinart.
