Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart DCC-2000 Coffee-on-Demand 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Brushed MetalCustomer Review: Holy Cow what a great Coffee Maker Summary: 5 Stars
Well let's just start off by saying I agree with the naysayers that hate the way the water has to be poured into the machine. However if you use the coffee tank to pour it in after a few times you become very good at not spilling it. I am assuming that is why there is a spout on the side of the coffee tank. At any rate we had an old coffee maker that did the job, but you could not leave the coffee in it for hours as you can with the Cuisinart. The programming is so easy a Marine can do it. It is chock full of features. You can program it to make coffee before you get up, you can program it to heat the coffee in 30 min increments once made after which it turns itself off. It has a small brew setting that makes 1-4 cups. There is severe condensation from the steam inside the lid once the coffee is done brewing, but Cuisinart thought of that as well. When you raise the lid it drains down the lid into a catch that funnels it to your spill catch on the front of the machine. The water filter is a stroke of genius as it helps brew a perfect cup of coffee every time be sure to rinse it otherwise your first pot of coffee will have some charcoal dust in it..tee hee hee. Well we have only had this thing since Christmas, and I read horror stories of the controls going out. (use the 3 year warranty...duh) As of yet it is still a perfect coffee maker that has yet to do anything other than its job. We use only the gold filter, and it works perfect. BUY IT...BUY IT NOW....you will love it!!! Oh yeah...buy it from Bed Bath and Beyond because it is $99 there and you can find 20% off coupons everywhere which makes your out of pocket $79. Are there better coffee makers? Without a doubt...are there better coffee makers under $80? NO WAY! Oh yeah almost forgot...if you have tall insulated travel mugs like I do you will not be able to fill them under the spout....however if you are smarter than a box of rocks you can remove the spill catch, and move it to the side of the kitchen counter at which time you can put a 3ft travel mug underneath it if need be :), or you can remove the coffee tank and fill with the great little pour spout. Until next time just remember cold coffee is yuck.
Customer Review: Great Machine Summary: 5 Stars
I am not quite sure why this machine is getting mixed reviews.
1) Complaining it does not keep coffee hot is ridiculous. These people must have Iron tongues or something. Take the 2 minutes it takes to read a whopping 3 pages in the manual and you will see you can change the settings to keep the coffee hot for up to 4 hours. When you pour the coffee it is steaming hot. This is not an issue at all!
2) Complaining it is too big. This is no bigger than any other 12 cup Coffee Maker.
3) Complaining it leaks down the back when you open the top. Yes, this is the case, but ONLY if you open the top the second the coffee is done brewing. What is the rush? Enjoy your coffee. No need to open the top until you are done anyways, so this, again, is a non issue.
4) Complaining it is too hard to fill is an absolute joke. Granted, if you try and fill this machine IN THE DARK, then yes, I can see why it would be difficult, but people are making it sound like it takes a surgeon to fill this with water, and that is simply not the case.
5) Complaining it is too hard to clean. Come on People, this is not your living room, or even your car, it is a Coffee Maker. If you want to have every single part of this machine spotless, then yes, it could be difficult. But to give it a very good cleaning is very simple.
6) Complaining you can't fill a travel mug. Well listen up Einsteins, take the 3 seconds and remove the bottom tray and presto, your travel mug fits perfect.
7) Complaining the coffee tastes burnt and/or old after sitting in the machine is not accurate. The last cup tastes the same as the first cup. I guess if you made a pot of coffee on Tuesday Morning and drank your last cup on Sunday morning, okay, I am sure it does not taste good.
This is a fine Coffee Machine, works very well, takes very little time to read the manual, and within minutes you are up and running. None of the above complaints make any sense to me. The Clock is simple to use, programming is a snap, and coffee comes out great. Do not be afraid to buy this machine.
Customer Review: DCC-2000 Coffeemaker - Mostly Good Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this coffeemaker for its sleek design and the fact that it doesn't require a carafe. I've got an all stainless steel appliance kitchen and this product fits in nicely. I've had this coffeemaker nearly four years and use it daily.
It makes good coffee. However, I've found that you can make a good pot of coffee with nearly any maker if you have good water, good coffee and know what proportions of each to use.
It never leaks, but sometimes I miss the very small fill opening. To fill the machine I keep a large measure cup on hand, as it directs the water into a narrow stream. I sometimes get in a hurry and still miss the opening. Not a huge issue for me or a big mess to clean up.
It's easy to clean. I pull out the reservoir and brewing basket and rinse them out before each use and do a thorough washing every few days. All very easy.
The clock is hard to read (not backlit) and setting up the auto brew is a little complicated the first couple of times. But you get used to it. The reservoir gauge looks cool but is only moderately accurate.
My only complaint is that after about 2 years I noticed that the coffee wasn't very hot, even right after brewing. There is no adjustment for the brewing or reservoir temperature. I nearly always have to microwave my cup of coffee for 30 seconds or so before I can drink it. Not good for me, as I think microwaving changes the taste of a cup of coffee and not for the better.
But it died this week. All-in-all, I got nearly four years out of a $100 coffeemaker. I guess that's not too bad in today's disposable generation. I wished it would have lasted a little longer. I think it is reasonable to expect a coffeemaker to last 5 to 6 years, but I don't think the manufacturer agrees.
I'm looking for another coffeemaker now. I don't think I'm going to buy another one of the same. While I liked most things about it, two-plus years of luke-warm coffee was enough.
Update: After a lot of research on coffee makers I bought a Cuisinart DCC-2600. Reviews look great. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Customer Review: Best coffee maker I have ever owned!! Summary: 5 Stars
I seldom write reviews, but I just had to this time. This is a great coffee maker that makes great tasting coffee and is very easy to use. The dispenser works flawlessly, and by doing away with carafe you eliminate the burnt coffee issue. We had purchased a Braun KF590E on Amazon a year ago; it never made good coffee and half the time would clog and overflow all over the counter, and if the coffee sat for an hour you would get burnt coffee taste. The first cup of coffee out of the Cuisinart DCC-2000 was a real eye opener. The coffee tasted so good, and so much better than the Braun I couldn't believe it. The "press to serve" dispenser is easy to use and eliminates mess, and I like the coffee gauge telling you how much coffee you have left in the pot. It's easy to program, and you can even program the length of time for the auto shut off feature. It is also easy to fill; I am not sure why people complain about this, I use a 2-quart pitcher with water from the RO filter and have no problems pouring the water in. The only thing that is a little awkward is that we have to pull it out from under our kitchen cabinet to open up the top and fill it and put the coffee in, and then scoot it back under the cabinets, but I see this as a small price to pay for the dispenser feature and great-tasting coffee, and not a big deal. You also cannot get a tall travel mug under the spout to fill it, so I use a 2-cup pyrex measuring cup for this. The unit itself looks great on the counter, and matches my Cuisinart DBM-8 burr grinder (which also works great) nicely. I was somewhat confused by the description that says it dispenses coffee "cup by cup"; it actually dispenses as much or as little as you want. I was tempted to buy the Capresso MT-500 because of its ability to heat water to 200 °F, but after reading the reviews about its finicky operation, and saw its price ($160) I figured I'd try the Cuisinart. I was not disappointed. I bought this unit refurbished so it did not come with the gold filter and only had a 90-day warranty; these may be good reasons to buy it new, since you get the gold filter ($10) with it, and also a 3 year warranty.
Customer Review: I HAVE THE ANSWER Summary: 5 Stars
okay, so i would not know this if i did not also own a zarafina tea maker as well as this product. the zarafina has a removable interior where the water is heated. the removable interior that heats connects with a power source when placed back in the tea maker. if you get this area damp or wet in any way, shape or form then the machine will misbehave.
while examining my new coffee maker i noticed that it had the EXACT same mechinism. this may account for some of those entries that state it worked sometimes and then sometimes not.
answer: sometimes it may have gotten water in the underside from someone clumsily spilling water outside of the well or from someone cleaning the resavior and setting it back in when it was not completely dry.
also, after time and time again of water coming in contact with this area of the machine it will break. on the zarafina instructions it gives a very serious warning to the effect; that if you have water anywhere near the electical connections of the heating element it will break. it's too bad cuisinart isn't as sharp in its tone on this subject in the directions.
we have allot of consumers writing in stating they made a mess with the water well and then the machine broke. i think a majority of these is the machine is shorting out due to water coming in contact with the electrical connection in the resavoir.
the leaking i found is due to the shower head mechanism and how it works. you really cannot lift the lid until 10 minutes after the brew is done. there is allot of condensed water vapor in there and it will drip down the back of the machine.
it seems like an okay machine so far. i'm such an impulse buyer and it was almost half off so i snatched it up. we'll see. electronics these days, expensive or not, are so disposable in nature due to quality issues and people wanting the latest and greatest; so what should we expect? regardless, i think this machine would have a much longer life if we guarded the power source from water. all convienience comes with a little trade in of frustration.
