Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart DCC-1150BK 10-Cup Classic Thermal Programmable Coffeemaker, Black

Customer Review: Great coffee maker with just one inconvenience
Summary: 4 Stars

We purchased this grind and brew coffee maker a month ago and have used it everyday Monday through Friday (we use our espresso machine on weekends and holidays). The resultant coffee is coffeehouse quality and thanks to the thermal carafe remains hot for several hours (coffee reminds hot longer if you use the 4-cup setting regardless of amount of coffee brewed). The only inconvenience is cleaning the grinder, which requires careful and thorough hand-washing because mositure enters the grinder while coffee is brewing, and requires careful drying if you intend to use the grinder right away. The wife and I have no problem with the buzzer, as we are both totally deaf (smile). If Cuisinart can solve the problem of moisture entering the grinder, we would give this grind and brew thermal coffeemaker a stellar 5 stars.

Customer Review: Good brew but no longevity
Summary: 4 Stars

Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker, Black and Stainless Steel This machine brews very good coffee. However, about 14 months into daily usage, the self clean light activates and no amount of recommended cleaning methods will shut it off. Given the exceptionally good 3 year warranty, I was able to obtain a replacement unit (after paying $10 shipping). Unfortunately the same condition is inherent in this unit. Did not bother to call for another replacement even though I still have 8 months warranty remaining on the original purchase. Strongly suspect third unit would have same problem. As title indicates good brew, no longevity. If you are into swapping the unit every 14 months, go for it.

Customer Review: Coffeemaker Overflows Easily
Summary: 2 Stars

I read all the (great) reviews before purchasing this coffeemaker for our office. The coffeemaker is very attractive and easy to use, however we've had trouble w/it overflowing. I believe there are several items that contribute to this problem:

1. Interior "cup" must snap into place -- if you don't feel the connection then there will be a problem.

2. Cone must fit snug w/in the cup and this is difficult due to the carrying straps both have.

3. If someone attemps to pour coffee before the entire pot is completely filled and the cup slips out of place, even slightly, the pot overflows.

I wouldn't purchase this coffeemaker again as I get complaints from staff every day and we've probably wasted at least ten pots of Peet's coffee which is not inexpensive!

Customer Review: It brews coffee and the coffee stays hot
Summary: 5 Stars

All of the other reviews are much more detailed and take into account things that may be positives or negatives to you. I had a Zojirushi unit which I was happy with. But I had granite countertops installed and the Zojirushi would no longer fit under my cabinets. Like by half and inch, but what can you do. I researched thermal coffee makers, read more reviews than a sane human should read about coffee makers, bit the bullet and bought the DCC-1150BK. I had only a few criteria. I needed stainless and I wanted thermal. I have had this coffee maker for a few months. It brews coffee. I pour the coffee into the cup. The coffee tastes good. The coffee stays hot. Nothing else. This is how simple I want a coffee maker to be. I bought it and am happy with the purchase. Take care.

Customer Review: Very good coffee, great heat retention
Summary: 4 Stars

My wife and I bought this Cuisinart coffeemaker to replace a Braun that was no longer available. And we're glad we did. We grind our own coffee from freshly roasted beans and drink it black, so we care about flavor. And we don't like reheating coffee, even in the microwave. We wanted a 10-cup coffee model, since we usually make about 8 cups of regular-decaf blend in the morning for our own consumption, and we figured the coffee would stay hot longer in a smaller carafe. The Cuisinart does a much better job of retaining heat than our 10-cup Braun did. We have found that even a cup or less left in the carafe has been drinkably hot after a couple of hours. We've never tried coffee from the highly regarded Technivorm (at over $250), so we can't say this is the best brew ever, but we're happy.
