While the coffee maker works fine and does everything as advertised (e.g. timer, clock, setting for 1-4 cups) I wonder if the people designing these things really drink coffee ? The opening for the water reservoir is a very small corner in the top right part. In order to add water one has to open the top lid which only opens to a 90 degree angle. It is virtually impossible to pour all the water from the carrafe into the small opening without twisting the caraffe and spilling some into the filter (or outside the coffee maker). Come on, people. This is not rockect science, this is a coffee pot. Have the lid open all the way or be able to take it off instead of just flipping it up 90 degrees would solve the problem. Our Krupp coffee maker was on its way out, so I decided to search Amazon for a different type coffee maker. My wife and I wanted a carafe that would keep the coffee hot and it could be taken off the hot plate and put on the table. After reading many of the reviews about the Cuisinart 10 cup Thermal, I was convinced this was the one. I was aware of some of the comments that were negative, but I didn't consider them a show stopper. We love the coffee maker. The coffee tastes better than in our old Krupp. It's easy to use & clean, and the beeper (its ready!) is modestly quiet. The coffee remains hot in the carafe for quite sufficient time (for us). I'd recommend this product to anyone who wants excellent coffee, kept hot a long time, and at a cost easy on the pocket. I just finished putting the water through this coffee maker to clean it before making my first pot of coffee. The filter basket sat filled with hot water, and nothing I could do would make the water finish coming down into the pot. I finally lifted the hot water out with the filter and dumped it. I put the top on the carafe because the instructions said the water would flow through it, but I ended up water all over the counter. So I re-seated the filter like others have suggested, and shook the carafe top and replaced it, too. Now my 2nd pot of hot water came out fine. The instructions tell you how to fold down the paper filter seam so it fits in the coffee filter properly. I supposed now I can train everyone in my family on using this product, but I think I'll just return it. This product is too complicated.Customer Review: Just ok

I purchased this based upon a leading magazine review and Amazon reviews.
I was a bit disappointed that the coffee although very convenient to use, did not make the coffee taste much better than a $20 coffee maker I also own.
The coffee taste rather weak. I wonder if it is because the larger size 10-12 cup coffee makers, the water runs through the coffee grounds fairly quickly and therefore do not have a chance to make a flavorful cup of coffee.
I purchased the Cuisinart 4 cup coffee maker and it has been excellent in bringing out the coffee flavor. The DCC-1150 doesn't even come close to the small Cusinart in flavor performance.
I like a coffee maker that brews a tasty cup and that makes me look forward to getting out of bed in the morning, and I'm afraid the DCC-1xxx series don't do that.

I had a coffee maker for less than a year and it was noisy and I never saw so much steam as what came out of that coffee maker when it was breweing - so I decided it needed to be replaced. My parents have a Cuisinart coffee maker with a thermal pot and they rave about it, so I decided to spend the extra money and get one for myself. I love it!!! It is quiet when it brews, there is no steam, it beeps and shuts off when it is done and it keeps the coffee hot (not luke warm) for hours. Even better, because the coffee is not sitting on a hot burner, it stays fresh so the cup I drink at 11:00 am on Sunday morning is as hot and fresh as the one I drank at 8:00 AM. I bought a second one for my mother. She wanted it in case hers ever stops working - she couldn't believe the price. I highly recommend this product!
